It's been a tough winter this year in NW Iowa. I don't expect an increase in numbers next year as we've had about 40" of snow as Feb. Usually 28" or under is the magic number for pheasants to increase the following year.

Was cleaning a bird tonight and it's crop was huge. I could tell it wasn't corn or beans, but seeds and a large green material. I opened it up it looked like spinach. I was tired so I'll examine better tomorrow. Anyone else ever see this and what is it?

A few things that are guaranteed when hunting. When you go pheasant hunting you will see plenty of deer and when you go deer hunting you will see plenty of pheasants. When you start to pick up your decoys some ducks will fly by. I was deer hunting today could have been a quick limit of roosters.

I bought a M2 compact youth model for the wife and future family members tonight. Seems like a real nice gun and I will use it for ducks and backup pheasant gun. Anxious to try it out. Will have to wait a while to get a sxs, but the wife is happy.;)

I would like to see a Residents Only Opener for the state of Iowa. I see states like SD and ND have it. I think it is a good idea to give residents of the state first chance at the birds especially on public ground. SD and ND people how do like it? Iowa residents what do you think?

1st time dove hunter, I went Sunday and today and had a great time. Similar to duck hunting except more misses. Recommend you try it to all those thinking about going.
