Any body have any opinions about this. Thinking of upgrading to one.
I pull a 6000 pound 24' boat and a 20' enclosed fishouse no problem but the mpg will be around 10-12.
I haven't had a 1/2 ton truck in nearly 30 years. We pull to much to have one. I will say this, I wouldn't be caught dead cruising hwy speed with a 1/2 ton truck with 11,300lbs hooked to it. Actually I would I'm afraid be caught dead. 1/2 ton trucks don't have tires or the weight to be doing such a task. Drive that truck into a corner with such weight and you may find yourself using up all the blacktop and then some when those side walls roll over. Not that long ago, 3/4 tons were only rated for such weight. There's a reason for that.
To each his own. The technology is better in pickups today with trailer sway control and advanced trailer breaking. For a guy hauling around a bobcat for work all day you should have a 3/4 ton pick up or bigger. But for the average guy towing around boats and toys a ecoboost is a great option with more than enough power and you can tow a bobcat if you have to. I think you should take one out for a weekend and you will be surprised. I will even let you beat on mine next time I'm in Sodak.
I have two good friends that each have one. Their just grocery haulers. Neither pulls more then a light Alum. fish boat. That's 1/2 tons are for.

Brother in law loves his S.crew ecoboost. Similar mileage as the above poster (low 20's on the highway) When towing his 17 ft. ski boat with an ATV in the bed of the truck he manages 16mpg on the highway. I frequent F-150 online forum every now and then and haven't heard of any real issues with the ecoboost engines, at least no more than other engines. I think for towing it's a no brainer, the ecoboost generates more torque with a broader torque band.
The ecoboost engine will still be chugging just fine at 100k miles. The torture test: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tEqwXrqzH4
If you aren't towing then it's a toss up as whether you like 6 holes or 8.
may want to wait a bit to see who drops a smaller diesel in their 1/2 ton trucks

Mike, Not sure I want a diesel. I live in Minnesota and the clod weather is not the best for diesel fuel. Also with the price higher than gas why choose diesel? If the mileage is about equal? Unless I am missing something? Why do you say wait for a smaller diesel? Do you know something I don't, fill me in buddy!
