If you had to choose a second breed what would it be?

Well, so far I've had two pointing Labs. If I were to get another breed, maybe a Llewellin Setter. I've heard really good things about them.

Springer spaniel.;) I would like one that looks and hunts like QH's male springer. Nice build, good hunter.

I'm just getting ready to start with my first hunting dog, an English Setter, but if I had to choose another I think it would be a Deutsch-Drahthaar. I've hunted behind one, and they are big strong and fun to watch.

I hope JP doesn't read this! Lol next time I'm having trouble he will look at me and say "Get your act together or I'm going to go live with 1pheas4.":D:cheers:

I have 3 EP's, a lab and a retired Vizsla. My next dog(s) will be another Chessie for sure. However, I think a nice ESS or maybe a pudelpointer would be fun someday.

An ESS. Although I would love to own a well bread field poodle. I think it would be a gas in the field. But they are really really expensive!

Been a Lab waterfowl/flushing dog man all my life, but would really like to try out the pointy dog game with one of the purtier, long-haired breeds. Not all that keen on cockleburr hair mats & tangles though, and don't know if any of the prissier/good-looking dogs can hunt like some of the dare I say uglier standby pointing breeds (which I'm trying my dangdest not to specifically name so as not to get a butt-sniffin/fang-baring dogfight going on here)... ;)

I'm right there with you. I saw some guys in SD with 3 or 4 of them a few years ago. They were sure built strong, and looked pretty cool. Kinda checked into them a couple years ago. Not many good breeders and your right pretty pricey.

Just think of them as driving a mustang gt instead of a chevy chevet LOL. I know lots of good breeders if you ever want one.

Hen, Hen, ROOSTER that there is funny!

I'm a Pudelpointer guy but if I were to get another breed it would be a SRHP (Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer) nothing but versatile dogs for me!

They look and possibly are related tho I think the Slovakian is Wirehair and something else. There is at least one breeder in the US. I've never seen one, just pics. I think the breeder posted on here a few times.

I am a labrador man myself but I if I was to get another hunting dog breed I am kinda interested in these duck tolling retrievers. They look like funny little things..and although they are primarily waterfowl dogs the pride in me says I could get them to hunt pheasants...I guess I always like a good challenge.. Also, aside from a hunting dog, I want and will have either a St Bernese or St bernard before my days are done. I just want a monster lug roaming the house to use as a pillow every now and then..Pretty much I want any dog out there. I love them all..but labs are #1 in my heart..they are some of the happiest creatures in the world..and it rubs off on ya :)

If I was to get another breed it would be another pointing breed. Not sure I could narrow it down to any one specific but if I had to it would be a dog with English in its name. Either pointer or setter. I love the intensity of pointers and the all out run the possess but I love the elegance of a setter(provided they don't find a cocklebur patch). To me both breeds would fit the bill but for now I am just having too much fun with my GSPs. I will admit that the English breeds take a finer touch and more know how and I'm just flat out not there in my life yet.

american water spaniel, boykin(the dog that fits), or maybe english field cocker
the city is kinda moiving in around me and i wonder sometimes if all i need is a30 -40lb "jump dog that can pick up the ducks and the doves, and flush a pheasant or a covey of quail walking back from the blind
a small spaniel that's as calm as a labrador,by the blind, would make me a believer
english field cockers arent show cockers, i'm sure you guys know
theres a dog called a wachtel hund that looks to be essentially a dutch or german springer.again calm till you turn her on is important
if i win the lottery id have squadron of dogs and sweet properties to hunt on

I agree with LoneRooster, I am a Big friendly Lab fan, But I would like to try a Springer if I could get the Lab and Springer to work together...
