Quail Hunting Pics and Videos

Rascal.....your pics are inspiring and kudos for the nice habitat scenes. I am glad your finding huntable birds in IL.

Yes an 8 covey day is very good these days just about anywhere.....

But I remember finding 8-12 coveys most days I hunted in Nebraska and Kansas during the 80's until around 2006.....then numbers really started to drop due to severe weather and habitat reduction.

It's not about the numbers or how many we kill.....but it sure is nice to get young dogs into a lot of wild birds......

I am about finished with hunting (shooting) the wild birds for the season....and plan to keep working some of those farms w/ my dogs and a camera in hand. That way the boys get to find a few more coveys and can try to take some nice pics....

HighBrass....awesome....yes..I don't look to shoot limits....2 or 3 a hunt is enough. I don't like to shoot up my coveys too much either...I have a couple left that I have not shot a bird out of...I don't know about other people though..we've had a span of really cold weather and now snow on the ground...now is when I worry about their survival. isn't crazy how much money and time we spend to hunt and kill them but yet we are overly protective of them:) I'm hoping to sneak away to Kansas this week for 2 days...use up the last of my 2013 hunting license

Great to hear about KY quail. We've had very good luck in SE Indiana this season. I am confident we are averaging a covey an hour of hunting and I know for a fact that we haven't been to any of the places we hunt and not found a covey this season. Almost the exact opposite of last seasons hunts on the same places.

My SIL shooting his first wild quail.

Steve...GREAT videos as usual...yes we got hit with snow and ice here in IL as well....worried about my quail in this crappy weather...tomorrow low of 4 and high of 16 then maybe more snow....I HATE it....hard to believe it was nearly 70 degrees wednesday when I was in Kansas...lol can't wait to go back

We got 6-8" of snow here last night. Going to be really cold.
It needs to warm up and melt this stuff in a few days or the quail start to suffer.

More scalies

Took my middle boy out with me for a quick hunt. He thought he was king of the world packing around dead birds.

wow....that looked like a hell of a good day on those valley quail...

great job getting the youngsters out. wish I could get out today but just cant bring myself to hunt quail when its 0 degrees out and ice. poor things..it will be all they can do to survive out there in this weather

Great pic! That looks like my kind of country right there. The beauty of the high desert/ colombian basin never ceases to amaze me.

Well now that pheasant season is over I should be adding some new pics here in the near future.
