Quail Hunting Pics and Videos

yes..I have a friend that lives in AZ....he has a cabin up in the mountains where he and his son in law quail hunt quite often.....he has told me many stories about great hunting years and terrible ones...and he says its all based on rain fall. when they get rain there are birds....when they don't there arent. when bird #'s are really low they don't even go hunt. he comes out here to IL to visit once or twice a year...he's originally from here but has lived in AZ for 40 something years now...

Took the dogs out for a run today. Got into some quail.

nice work Steve....wow...you saw that rattler out in this COLD?????

Well, he had been dead a while, and something had eaten part of him.
I have never seen a rattler in this part of the state.

The bad thing is this was on my property :(

Here is some video from today. I was not in good position to get good video, but its not always easy or possible. But it was a fun hunt with friends.

Ace did not have his best day today. The second to last sequence he was standing for a good bit. But as Brice was going in to flush the 2 singles started running under the plum thicket, and making that chirping sound. Ace started to relocate and cut them off, as they were running to the right. But I told him whoa, and he blew me off. Not happy.

Remember It!!!!

If hightail setters reads this post I would like him to zoom in on the hat and read what it says.

Somebeach, You got to love it!!! My son is in the Army now and on his way to Capt. school. We are trying to get together for a hunt before he goes out of country. I have a pic of him with a squirt gun and a hunting at six, when I took him Quail hunting near Desert Center, he was given the job of watering the dogs as we hunted. Great times!!!:10sign::10sign:

Great pics Steve....hope that damn snake is the last one on your property!

Pics from this season.....KY quail hunting.

A few pics from my hunts this season in Kentucky. All wild birds on private ground in the CREP program.
Birds are really making a strong comeback and our best day so far is 8 coveys and a 2 man limit of 16 birds.....this week.
We strive to only take a few from each covey so they will have best chance to survive.

Hope you enjoy and good hunting to all!

I lived in Lexington as a kid. There used to be lots of quail around back then.
Glad to see them making a come back.

This is the first time in a long time that I have seen a rattlesnake this far east in KS. Sucks that is on my own ground

WOW....8 coveys! thats AWESOME! my best day in IL is 3 coveys and I feel very blessed for finding that many. If I find a covey or 2 and kill a couple birds I'm happy...

we had a bunch of snow and ice the other day....now I'm worried about them.

Great pics highbrass. 8 covies is pretty impressive. In that last pic are those dogs pointing birds that far away from the cover or is that white dot another dog that they're backing.

here's some pics from last weeks hunts....still can't believe how blessed my season has been here at home in IL....finding coveys on every piece of ground...some multiples.....now with extended cold and snow and ice...I'm worried about them....I'm going to focus on pheasants and leave my quail alone for a while....hopefully get out to Kansas next week or so.

Ace pointing a big covey ...35mph wind -7 plus windchill and snow...not hard to find them in those conditions...they will be ON the feed

Ace pointed a feeding covey in the corn...I doubled!

Jag had a point on a covey also on edge of bean field in woods

few more pics.....

end of a great day afield....

little piece of heaven on earth

Ace pointing a single

12 year old Jag still has it..pointed a covey and a hen pheasant...why oh why couldn't have been a rooster!

Steve....thats GREAT video....I look forward to seeing your clips...I really gotta get on that myself.....love to see those white dogs on point. we gotta hook up and hunt together some time

I am getting better at getting the GoPro pointed in the correct direction. But I missed some of the best action of the day because I had it in still picture mode rather than video. Ace had a great point on a hen, and as it flushed 2 roosters flushed 40 yards ahead.

Wish that I could walk smoother so that there isn't so much shaking.
