Very tough day for me today. I put my 14 + year old hunting buddy down. He slept by me since we brought him home. I could never pay him back for all he has provided for me. I have cried like a baby most the afternoon. I will never forget him. I'm lucky to have a son of his.

Here's some pics of my my bud.

sorry to hear that onpoint i am facing the same thing with my lab of only 8 years cancer is a bi76876 no matter how you look at it

My most sincere condolences . . . it isn't ever easy. Dogs only have one fault, actually . . . they don't live near long enough.

My sincere condolences. Sorry for your loss.

The old Indian story says that dogs gave up 10 years of there own life to live with man. I'm so sorry for your loss, but I'm sure your buddy would not trade his life with you for 10 more years in the wild.

It would be nice to have them around for 30 years wouldn't it. It seems we get them where we want, get a few years at there very best and they tire, grow old, and there gone. Just like that there gone. It's not fair the man takes them away so fast. But he works in mysterious ways they say, so who knows. There may be a place you see them all again.

However, and after 63-years stomping around this green planet, I can truthfully say this about ALL of my furry hunting partners: "More than missing them, I'm thankful for having ever known them." Dogs are full-to-bursting with unconditional devotion & love . . . and mine have taught this old boy a lot about those qualities.

Very Sorry for your loss Chuck, You are lucky to have a son the help ease the pain........Bob

Onpoint, sorry for your loss. I lost 2 Britts within a year of each other. A friend consoled me by telling me " The death of a pet is the price we must pay for a priceless experience." God Bless. Steve

Man....I really didn't want to open this thread knowing I've got the same situation coming in a year or two with Hauss.

Well, Onpoint as I've told others in the past just do your best to stay very busy for the next few days. You'll still break down here and there but keeping busy numbs the pain a bit.

Sorry for your loss today friend. --1pheas4

I am sad to hear of your pain, and loss. I listen every night to my nearly 14 year old girl, cough each and every night. I know what she doesnt , that her time with us is short ! treasure those photos, and the good times. They fact they dont outlive us , is our curse!

OnPoint-I'm so sorry to hear about your buddy. That's the worst thing about having our companions--they're with us for such a short time. I'm dreading the day that will be coming for my 12 year old Cody.
Hang in there and rejoice in all the good memories you have of him.

Thank you all for the kind words and thoughts. It has been a tough day for us and we have a few more right behind Dozer that are getting up there in age.
Dozer was truly the Best Chesapeake We have ever owned both in the field and as a loyal companion. Tears flowed freely as Chuck hung his collar up on the wall next to the others we have lost.

Wow! what can I say? So many kind words. I thank you all.

Gob bless you all and I hope I can repay the kind words when you may need comforting.
