Alright I have been sitting on this question for a while now. Thought I would post it today. We all have many "Gadgets" to help us be better hunters. My question is this, (hypothetical in nature) If you were only allowed one "gadget" to help assit you in the field as you were hunting what would it be? Okay you can have your favorite clothes, boots, gun, and shells. What is the gadget you can't do without? Is it the e-collar for the dog? Hat? Shooting glasses? GPS? Dog GPS? Maps? ...

A good vest, I bought a PF vest at PF fest a few years ago in Madison and it is great. Very well made and has plenty of pockets to hold birds, water, collapsible water bowl, shells, etc. and orange for my safety.

Garmin astro to keep track of my boys.

Other than my dogs electronics, knife, wallet, and phone I usually only carry a gun, pocket full of shells, and a short rope to make a bird tote to carry my birds out with.

Ditto the collar...and I bought shooting glasses last season - made a big difference with sporting clays and hunting!

One of my favorite parts of upland hunting is the lack of gadgets a person needs.

Many times I get off the combine, grab a gun, call the dog and hunt for an hour or so.

I honestly can't think of anything I have that would be considered a "gadget".

Choke tubes, they are gadgets, and I am very grateful for them.

Desire and passion for the upland hunt. I've had it for a bit over a half-century and should it ever decline, I will be done.

I like hunting with a guy that blows his whistle all day:eek:. If I can't have that I would request one of those locator beepers, maybe it could screech like a hawk when the dog goes on point:thumbsup:. Like hunting next to a backing bread truck all day. Reaaaaaaal peaceful. :D

I would say my e-collar, not for the shock but I use the tone button to have my dog check back, I never have to yell or blow a whistle. Very peaceful in the field and silent to all around me.

A slip lead. If the dog is acting up a bit just put him on it and heel him for a minute or two and his head is back on straight. They don't want to be on a lead while there are birds to be hunted.

An up to date plat book....we use them constantly to try to gain access to "the perfect hunt"!

My dogs--No dogs no hunt--

Besides the hunt I get to sleep next to two beautiful blonde girls at night-- (not bad for a old guy )

One thing

My back brace from Home Depot. With it, I can hunt all day for days in a row. Without it, I'm a mess after a few hours. My back and my shooting are weak spots.
