Where are you heading this year?

Just hoping to get out! No solid plans, yet, as we're working on the family. So, that means I may be limited in trips. To ski or to hunt. That may be the question this year, as it's not looking like I can do extended getaways for both.

Maybe a short weekend trip here or their for both. Kind of sucks being passionate about so many things.

I am going to try and make an early season hunt to ND or Mt for sharpies and huns. After that, it depends if we get drawn in the SD non-resident waterfowl lottery. I will probably do another ND run and 2 3-day trips to SD.

Did you hunt in Marshall last year? We were there several times the previous three years but didn't bother in 2011. They were hit with a very bad Spring last year.

I only hunted Marshall once last year and it was one of the finest, shortest trips hunting anything, anywhere. Limited out by 11 a.m., went into to town, ate lunch and drove home. I still think the dogs would have let a few birds pass if they knew we'd just get back in the dang truck right away. :)

Later in the season can get a bit lean. Early season can get pretty crowded. End of October, mid-week has been the ticket for me.

Yea i was looking forward to it also. Maybe next year we could hook up, and push a ditch or two up there. First year I have missed the opener for a few years, but oh well my bosses are pretty tolerant of my outdoors schedule. ( including my wife).

Gonna do eastern Oregon for Chukar and Quail, then up to central Washington for Pheasants and Quail, then Sage Grouse in central Oregon if I get drawn.

Mostly staying home in northcentral MT. However, there is the annual trip to Sask. for waterfowl and huns; oh and then at least one trip to Idaho to try a bust my lungs hunting chukars . I would love to go back to Arizona in Jan. for quail but it seems like numbers have been way down, if they bounce back this year that could happen also. So many spots, so limit time and gas money! :D

Have you ever given thought to north east cali? Great quail and chukar hunting around Susanville and seemingly endless amounts of good public land.

Looks like we will have to go to SD for roosters due to the heat /drought. So I will be going to SD a couple of times for a cast & blast! Walleye's & Roosters!!! I will still hunt KS but mainly for deer this year. I still will make the annual opener hunt in West KS as always:)

I am tentatively planning a trip to SD over Thanksgiving. I have a friend in Pierre with lots of family connections to land. He also has a puppy he bought from me a few weeks ago. possibly taking along another guy that has a pup from me. We will probably have no less than five, predominantly black, cockers hunting for us. Sounds fun to me:)

I am going to start the season off in N. Idaho with a California quail, chukars, huns and roosters. Will be heading to S. Idaho in October for sharptails and will be in Clark, SD for the better part of November hunting pheasants. Have been looking into hunting some of the reservation land (Standing Rock) or Lemmon on my way through but need to do some more research before committing. Hope everybody as a safe and fun hunting season. Cant wait to see what the bird counts look like this year. Probably nothing like the fall of 2007 and 2008 those years were epic. Can still remember hunting solo Christmas day in 2007 near Hytie (sp?) on some waterfowl produciton land. It was about 70 and sunny with no snow on the ground and not a person or vehicle in sight. Finished the day off with a tailgait BBQ and a couple of cold ones.

W KS to hang out with old friends talking about the days when there were birds in KS:rolleyes:....back when it rained and there were only 10 or so days/yr of triple digit heat:mad: This statement is somewhat tongue in cheek, but my early spring optimism is dwindling as these miserable temps continue to rise/remain.

SOUTH DAKOTA BABY!! I hope to stomp around for a day or 2 down on the southern end of the state, just E of the river. Then I too will spend a couple days hunting around Clark on land that produced great #'s even last year. So, Platte, Huron, Clark....I know I need to experience hunting further west in SD, but I'm sort of a sentimental sapp when it comes to revisiting places where my best memories have been made:eek:

North dakota after Pheasant and hopefully get a sharptail this year in Nov. Quail in Arizona in January. I will be trying hard for wild Bobwhite/Woodcock locally in Georgia.

Will be heading to Gettysburg, SD first week of November. First time that far west in SD. Been hunting in and around Clark for several years. Will be introducing my young shorthair and wirehair to wild pheasants this year. Can't wait. It will also be my son's first trip to SD. At 12 years old it should be a very memorable trip. Is it November yet????

Dan

Any of you guys coming to Clark I will be right down the road I Frankfort. Send me a PM if y'all want to get together. Would like to meet some of the guys on here.

I will be hunting western IA the week after the opener, then off to Winner, SD area the week before Thanksgiving. I will also try to get back to Western IA a couple of times in Dec if the snow stays away..
