QH, yes, I can agree they are all great dogs. When I look at a Springer and compare it to a liver and white Brit. I think the only thing that is different is a Springer's ears are bigger. Do you agree?.........Bob

Yep and possibly a more square muzzle on springers.

Moe, I wasn't even going to respond to Edouards comment because it was so bass ackwords.:D

Very good read, thank-you Dz. One thing I think we can all agree on is that both spaniels and brittanies are beautiful gun dogs very worthy of Americas diverse uplands.

I've owned just as many Springers over the years as I have Brittanys. My first hunting dog was a Springer and I'll always have a special spot in my heart for Springers. But once I got a Brittany I could never go back to a flushing dog. There is just something about when a Britt locks up on point that really turns me on.

I hunt a lot with a friend who has a Brittany they are fun to watch. A couple times when my lab refused to properly flush a bird and stands there and looks at it, IE lab point, the Brittany would honor the "point".

@Bob: Hope you do know I was just yankin yer chain a wee bit! There are some YOO-GLEE (U-G-L-Y) dogs in the world which shall remain highly unspecified since I'm already in deep, but Britts ain't one of 'em - honestly, probably what I would have if I weren't a lab man already...Sorry, I shoulda knowed that sassin a man's dog even in jest is purt near akin to talkin bad about his mama! :D

I would think this sites format would allow for such breed groups on the main dog forum as a sub forum. The problem is, you get so many forums, that they divide things up so bad. That it gives the impression of the site being slow with little posting. It also becomes a real bare to moderate. Too many things to keep an eye on.

I think it is fun to poke fun at each other like we are no one gets testy. In all honesty I get enjoyment out of watching any and all breeds of hunting dogs if they are well trained. They all have their strong points and can get the job done. It is nice once in awhile for me to hunt behind a good flushing dog just for a change, just as it is fun for guys that dont hunt behind a pointer to do it once in awhile. Just for the record if I was to ever downgrade to a flusher it would definataly be a springer:)

I agree.:D I see I need to catch up, LOL. OK first U. You meant the britt came from a spaniel with a bad flush, so that would be a dog that should have not been bred.:D"Mistake".

HHR, Flabadores the most beautiafool??, If you like cow pie sized stools, feeding 10lbs of food a day, hair pies all over the house, getting wacked by a baseball bat sized tail, and slobber on everything :D, Sorry M just funnin. But I spose if your stuck you can hook up to them and pull your self out.
Who's next,

I will now sleep better knowing Britneys came from spaniels with a bad flush. LOL.

I do like these threads where we poke fun too till they get taken too serious like many have. But the ear thing is one that I can say they have been getting just as short on many field bred ESS, guy's getting away from that AKC show garbage for a hundred years. It's neat to see how the dogs evolved. Way back "Coockers" I call em:D and ESS were the same dogs as well. I wonder which Spainels were the influance for the Britt though??? I like the Brown color Britts like your older dog George. That would give me piece of mind thinking I still may have a little Springer in the veins.

@Eduard: "downgrade" to a flusher, HAHAHA good one...That's OK, just remember while you guys stylish dogs are sometimes pointing air where a rooster used to be - my scrubby ol' flusher will be gittin er dun be4 those wily late-season suckers skedaddle out of town! :p

@FC: LOL, that's funny stuff about flabadors right there!
Mine ain't fat & lazy though, nor does he whack 'em & stack 'em with his tail - although he does slobber a little occasionally & is a walking hairball around the house!!! :D

The real reason I don't have a pointing dog too is I figure I ain't smart enough to learn a whole new dog-training gig this late in the game! Plus I hunt ducks & ur pointy dogs are mostly a bunch of sissies in the water...

Geez, I sure hope everybody on here can take a deep breath & swallow all this funnin around with a couple grains of salt w/o going all serious on me...A little laughter is good medicine for the soul! I'll do my part not to let the silly one-ups turn into real slams or get out of hand...

HHR, Training a pointer is not all that different from a flusher. The basic obedience is pretty much the same . I mean; "here", "sit" and that stuff. You flusher's train a command called "hup". For a pointer that is close to "Whoa" as I understand it. I just don't think the crossover is all that great. I had labs many long years ago, I made the change with no trouble. If I can anybody can......Bob

HHR, You just keep that flying hair monster where he belongs in the smelly water retrieving mud hens! You see the way it works is that the more inteligent dogs (pointing breeds that is, specifically Britts) will let the rooster run and hide in some cover. They work with patience, diligence, and expertise allowing me to casually stroll behind at a leisurly pace. Taking my time enjoying the outdoors and the beautiful dog work that is unfolding before me. Then they point the bird, I flush and shoot, then the bird usually flys away. We then start all over after the dog scolds me for not holding up my end of the deal. I used to think I was in charge until I got the first you have to be kidding me look in the field.

Yea them pointin dogs are about the second best style a dog out there, right behind a flusher. I hope if you hunt brush you don't poke your eye out going on in there trying to do the dogs job .:D, flush a bird that is. LOL this is fun, someone kick me.:D I just love taking the easy route while the dog does the heavy lifting. "Staring at birds " Palease.
 who wins those staring contests with those pointing things and birds:confused:?,

ED a short story for you. I hunting in northern MN. Near Isanti to exact. I had a GSP at the time by name of Brandy. I was shooting a AYA Matador SxS. We no more than got out of the Station Wagon and Brandy went on point. I told him flush and he did, I missed both shots. A little ways further another point same thing and same result.4 shots no hits. A little further and another point. I missed both barrels again. Brandy turned around looked and me and in a flash was behind me biting me gently on the Achilles tendon. I said "you're right Bandy," I sat down had a smoke and then we out again. This time 3 birds in 20 minutes and I said. "That is our limit Brandy let go home." Those dogs can tell you what they think quick........Bob

Amen. We hunt a lot of berry briars and wild rose thickets that would be almost impossible to hunt without a brush busting springer. If I hunted a pointer and he went on point I would say "yeah I know, no get your a$$ in there and flush 'em up." But hey at least you pointer guys know to leave these prime spots for real bird dogs.:D Oh yeah that big cattail slough you skipped, there was 3 roosters and 6 hens in there.

You guys have it all wrong, my dog will flush on command it's as simple as saying OK. I hunt sloughs but tell you what from now on you can have the three roosters that are in there, along with the skunk and family of coons. I dont know what to tell you FC and QH it seems the pointer can do everything the flusher does and then some. Dont know what to tell you guys, must be superior genetics on our part!:D

Oh you spoiled Dakotans.:( If you had to hunt wild pheasants in California for just one season you would brave that skunk and family of coons, for a crack at 3 roosters.

What is your guys excuse for missing pointed birds? At least us flusher guys can say "damn I wasn't paying attention to the dog!" Or "whoa, where did that one come from." Even your dog says "Damn he's a bad shot!":D

OMG, lookie what we started here - Heh-Heh-Heh, this is fun long as nobody turns too serious & gets their feelings hurt, & none of the good-natured sparring takes a serious shot below the belt... ;)

Gettin to old to feel a shot below the belt any more.:D I know one thing flushers can be taught that bad habbit pointy thing too, just look at them pointy labs scam they got going,LOL. So I guess we really each have nothing on one another in reality. Simply prefrance.
Now I did get to pet my first Goldendoodle this week. UMMMMM, that guy who started that mistake is an ideot, I can tell you it had to be an accident.... If you want a 100lb poodle, because it won't shed, just buy a dam poodel.:D Sweet dog, but hunting would be a night mare from kennel street. They would get so full of burrs and just want to be petted and sleep. So all they really have is a poodle that eats 10 times the food.:D

Now if we crossed a britt for "well let me think",with a springer for smarts, drive, retrieving, bird finding, soft mouth, water work, use of wind and a great house dog we would be on to something.:D
We could call them Spittney's.

I love this theard and I'm staying out of it till It gets good. Then I'll send in the real dogs. Be ready, They out run gsp's and out flush labs , And they eat like horses. I love this banter. They point ( kind of ) Their butts anyway. Great thread.:D

I agree Jmac, one of the best threads in a while:10sign:. I like a good group who can handle some good natured ribbing.

Fc, I may take a look at one of those spittanies... as long as they don't point.:D
