So you played Alice, we get it.:D I bend nails for a living. No no drinking on the job. Maybe sit down comic would be a nice career path. Coot gets pick of the first litter.:D

This is more fun then your private club is it not.? OK I will act normal for a while.

Dang coot , How come you get the pick? It's ok. I figure the dogs will be liver and brown, With a 8 foot tail, and web feet the size of bears feet. :D

Well I figured that since FC has these amazing springers, if he was able to design his own dog it would be something that he could carry around in his purse.

Hunting dogs

Well I think it might be time for another of the famous Bobeyerite polls like the shotgun choke poll for pheasants. How about this:

If you currently hunt birds (pheasants, quail, ducks, geese, doves, etc) with your dog, what is your dog?
Lab
GSP
Brittany
ESS
Chessie
EP
Setter
Wirehair
Weim
Visla
Poodlepointer
(Add more as needed)

How about it Bob?

Oh yeah that big cattail slough you skipped, there was 3 roosters and 6 hens in there.

I stayed out as long as I could:D QH look at whos in the swamp the birds you found must have been left overs with short tails

There is good reason why the labrador retriever has been the most popular dog for the last zillion years. My brother in law has a brittany, and my lab can run circles around it hunting. And my lab is calm in the house, the brittany has way too much energy for my liking. But I like Brittany's, I'll just always have my labradors.

HHR, I'll just ignore your comments for now. QH, The Brittany has been in France for Hundreds of years. Yes hundreds. They were used by the peasants to poach game from the Rich barons etc. They are about the only working dog that can be traced back that far in history. They have a great history you should read it sometime..........Bob

That ain't no swamp, I talking about sloughs where you can't even see your dog. Stuff that makes you cringe just thinking about walking it. That right there is a stroll in the park.:D

Labman, this may be the case between your Lab and your brother-in-law's Brittany. But I'd have to say it's not the norm. Over my 50+ plus years of pheasant hunting I've had Labs, Springers and for the last 16 years Brittanys. I love them all. But I've never seen a Lab that could run circles around a Brittany in the pheasant field. I'd like to see a Lab keep up with my Brittanys. In fact I don't know of a Lab that ever kept up with the Springers I had. Doesn't mean the Labs don't do a good job, they just, in general, don't cover as much ground as a Springer or Brittany. Sounds like you might have an exceptional Lab, Congrats!

Temperment varies from dog to dog, not by breed. All my dogs (Labs, Springers and Brittanys) have been very clam and laid back in the house. You can have a hyper-active dog in any breed.

Your right! I didn't mean run, like literally running. I meant in all the other aspects of hunting. Finding birds, retrieving, swimming, etc, etc. Your exactly right, that brittany literally runs circles around my lab as far as distance ran, but it's running is non-stop to where the dog isn't even using it's nose and rarely finds a bird. It's not a well trained Brittany such as yours, but it's a good dog. Just to energetic for me, that's all.

Dakota(my lab) is a good hunting dog and most important a great family dog. Fits perfectly for my lifestyle. But she isn't a field trial dog, she's a hunting dog, and she does a pretty good job at it. She is now turning 8 this month and pretty much hunted on 2-3 legs this year due to arthritis, but she was still really good. I hate to see her get old, she's been wonderful. But I love all dogs, don't get me wrong. Good Thread.... Enjoy talking about our pups...

You are right that is really a nice walking swamp but it was the only picture I had at the time. :p When my friend fell in twice that day I could barley see him flopping around in the snow and water trying to get out. Maybe cause I had tears in my eyes.:D
