Said goodbye to an old friend today

With a heavy heart and watery eyes, I said my goodbye's to my old dog Nash today before I brought him into the vet for the final time. It's been some time coming as he developed severe arthritis in his spine and had trouble getting around. We tried to make him more comfortable in the last few months, but all the different meds were just not responding and I could no longer bear to watch him deteriorate. This morning he lay quietly and I looked into his eyes and he looked into mine and sensed from him it was time.

I've gone through this before and it seems you never can fully prepare yourself for when their day comes due.

Rest in peace ol buddy.
 
All of us feel your pain,only dog people can understand it!I wish I knew why God gives something we love so much such a short life span.Hang on to the memories,they are priceless.
 
Birdshooter, sorry for the loss of your buddy!!!!! I know it sucks and is the hardest thing you have to decide on when you see them suffering. My best Gsp made it to 16 and that trip to the Vet was horrible!!! I am sure he made you proud!!!!!!!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Ditto, Thoughts go out. These dang dogs just get good and they leave us. They should have the right to stay with us for 30 years. As soon as they hit 8, it's the thought that runs through your mind, "man rover only has a few years left to enjoy" Time has a funny way of flying bye, when we are having fun with our 4 legged hunting buddy's.:(
 
I am truly sorry for your loss. A friend once told me that the death of a pet is the price we pay for a priceless experience. Remember your buddy as he was in his prime. God Bless. Steve
 
I really appreciate all the kind words, it's been a trying afternoon and evening. Believe it or not it really does help though coming from you guys. We've all been there at one point or another and that is most reassuring.

Now for some extra hugs for my younger dog Willi who will help to keep my mind occupied.
 
Sorry to hear that and you had to go through that dreaded trip to the vet.
My wife read the post and started tearing up. I aint far behind her.:(
 
Been through it a few times. I feel for you. So hard to lose a best friend and companion. Glad you have a pup, it helps.
 
You gave him a great life which he lived for a long time. Still, it's very sad to say goodbye.
 
Boy do I know your pain. I put my 14 year old Chessie down a short time ago. My heart felt prayers go out to you in this very tough time.
