HAHAHA, love satire - since we're on a roll here, standing in a pick-up bed w/proper gun-rest, bottle of whiskey & a jacklight would be even better - why bother taking a chance wasting shells on "it's only sporting if they fly", when you can flock shoot 'em on the ground or out of the shelterbelt trees! LMAO - hope some young, gung-ho game warden doesn't actually think he has somehow stumbled into the motherlode on this part of a UPH thread-gone-wild! :p

i never thought of that. Why not spot light them at night. At work we have some of those large halogen lights. If we all brought a set, we could really clean up on opening weekend. Heck why opening weekend, we could go out a week before the youth hunt. We could call it the Old Timers Huckelberry Hunt Club. Pm me if you are in.
 
Oops, 4got to add that the best shelterbelts w/the nicest phez-filled trees loaded up like Christmas ornaments are always right beside the road & surrounding the farmer's house - a man would hardly have to do any walking at all to pick up the birds & we could add in an adrenaline rushing game of chase and/or hide-n-seek while we're we're at it! ;) :rolleyes:

Sad part is, there is probably someone out there who is taking this all serious as a HEART ATTACK... :eek: :D :(
 
All the farm kids I know shot them on the ground with .22's while feeding cattle, or eating scratch with the barnyard chickens, or off the combine in the fall. You'll have to a ways to find a "new" way of pheasant harvest to beat the farm kids to the punch.
 
when i was a kid hunting out around phillipsburg kansas, the locals would stick cock heads on sticks in the grass along the road on opening weekend to see if they could get unsuspecting road hunters to shoot at them. Pretty funny stuff. The farmer where we stayed would go out and shoot hens from a lawn chair with a .22 and a cooler full of beer.

Not to worry, I won't be joining ranks with the grand marching batallions anytime soon for phez - I usually don't even show up for the game till well after the opening day armies have done their little thing & moved on to better pasture, leaving me to slowly glean the still-rich pickings for the remainder of the season. Maybe we can give dem roosters a quiet go together someday! :cheers:

X2. Nice post, and I enjoyed reading your perspective.

My only beef (personally) with the big groups is that it is a less fun way to hunt (for me). The couple times I went out with a big group, it felt like work. I was constantly making sure I was keeping the line straight and watching the other hunters rather than just enjoying myself. But I definitely understand that other people like to party hunt, and I support their right to enjoy the sport in their preferred way.

Yea, call me a pot stirrer if you like. But it irks me to see condemnation of anyones legal tactics. While I too prefer to hunt alone w/ my dogs, or w/ only one or two good friends. I participate in a few LARGE group hunts and enjoy it as well. It is what gets me permission/access to the lease :) and I enjoy the satisfaction of putting birds in front of folks that might otherwise not have the opportunity OR support the sport.
I venture to guess that the majority of those guys are only going to get the opportunity to get out once or twice a year and probably contribute several hundred dollars to the local economy on the trip. and they purchase the license and permits that support the sport. "IMHO" you should be thankful for their participation.

Like I said, I'm new to the pheasant hunting scene and to this site, obviously it's been brought up before and both sides have valid points.....Now back to hunting out of planes/choppers, are shooting the birds or taking them out with propellers? Oh no, I might've just fallen off my pedestal :eek:
Hen, Hen, Oh Rooster Where Art Thou- you name the time and place and I'd love to meet up and hunt with you! I hunted around Dodge City last year. I didn't go until late in January, found pretty good bird numbers for a newbie! I'm addicted for sure.

This above it very VERY true.

Although, I do think that there are differences between doing something that is LEGAL and doing something that is RIGHT.

It's legal to shoot down a covey of 12 to 4, but personally, I feel, for the covey's survival, it's not right.

Edit: I still feel though, that if someone wants to hunt in a big group, again, who am I to say otherwise?

i guess i will fess up too. I got in trouble by the principle when i was younger, figures i would still get in trouble now:) At least you didn't have a ruler like the nuns in the catholic school........ That crap hurt.
