How many dogs do you have

How many dogs does everybody have for hunting? How many do you normally run at a time?

I have 3. 2 springer spaniels and a 6 month old red setter.

What happened to the other .8 Springer?


I used to run 2 English Setters. A person can cover lots of ground that way. Now I just run one EP 20months old.
 
Personally, I now have two that can hunt; however, I have access to 24 of which 10 or so can hunt...(my son's business and his dogs). We usually have anywhere from 6-8 and put two GSP's on the ground with one lab during pheasant season. For quail, we run two GSP's only. We rotate the dogs every hour or so depending on conditions.

I plead the 5th amendment. The facts may incrimminate me, ( not sure my wife has bothered to count), but I know she can read!
 
2 springers and one jack russell. The jack doesn't hunt anymore (I got tired of losing her down holes). We run the springers together or seperate depending on the cover and quarry. The female just turned 1yr old and is starting to show some promise.

goldeneye, without getting too much into breed bias, why the switch to a EP and what have you found to be the biggest difference between them and your setters?
 
I have 11 adult English Setters and 5 puppies. I can take 12 with the trailer and 4 boxes in the truck without doubling anyone up. Every slot could carry double. I hunt 2-4 at the same time. I've hunted in a group of 3 with 9 down from all hunters together before. It's a hoot to see that many dogs pointing and backing! I rotate dogs every 1-2 hours so almost every dog gets out unless I run out of limit too soon.

I will have to get back to you in a couple of months. My pup and I are still learning the whole process. He does not have enough bird contacts under his belt yet.

1 Pudelpointer
1 Curly Coated Ret.
 
One Yellow Lab, Funny I was the first with a Lab post??? This will be her third year, I am looking forward to seeing her work the birds again.
 
7 dogs 4 brittanies 1 english pointer 1 lab and 1 new weimeraner hunt all at the same time or single usually in a pair or treo accept when the girls are in heat then i hunt the males by themselves and females run seperately
 
One 4 year old Golden. I'll be looking to add another in a couple years. Gives me some time to convince the wife it's a really good idea... ;)
