Here's kinda my plan

Pheasant hunting has caused a regression in my life, as in I brush all else aside at an opportunity to hunt. I don't see it this way, but I've got rose colored glasses on when I think about just one more chance to follow behind Skye as her tail wiggles sniffing 'round for a loafin' rooster. What I'm trying to say is, as long as the season is still open somewhere, I can't get it off my mind. Between the long range forecast and tryin' to finagle a few days off, If I can swing it, I'll be out somewhere in a (hopefully) lonely field in South Dakota looking for one more pheasant. Skye turned 10 a few days ago, but she's been hunting all season, is doing good, and I know she'd love to go. I know one thing I'll never regret is spending just a little more time with her out on the prairies and wetlands.

I am hitting the road for SD as soon as the e school buss departs.
I'm not optimistic about the weather but we will make the best of it.

Yeah the weather is pretty nasty here today and through the weekend. Things look better starting Monday. I'm gonna get out either tomorrow or Sunday. Probably Sunday since the wind chill is supposed to be minus-20 at 10am on Sat.

I've given up on hunting for this season and I've started to put some stuff away. I got a cold and cough weeks ago and the cough is still hanging around. I had some minor surgery on Wednesday too and can't do much with the stitches. Oh well. I got out several of my spinning reels that I use for trout fishing and I'm going to methodically take them apart and oil and grease the gears and bearings this weekend. I bought some new reel oil and grease and a cheap set of precision screwdrivers for the job. Trout reels first and my bass fishing reels next. It doesn't take much to amuse me these days. Good luck to all the guys still hunting. Finish strong my friends.

This is right up my alley.

For frame bearings I grease them as heavily as possible. I don't go through the trouble of removing shields, but do my best to pack in grease. If you find a rough one you can oil heavily, spin and wipe off, then grease.

Spool bearings on a casting reel I only use oil. I find I can clean most all my reels with about 3 screwdrivers 🪛 and a 10mm nut driver for the handle but on a casting reel. The only sad thing about reel maintenance is that I never get to buy new reels as my off ones keep going.

I enjoy working on my stuff. I'm doing my spinning reels first and then I'll do my casting reels. I am still fishing with a small Ryobi reel I bought when I was in high school. It's all metal. I don't think they make reels anymore but it was built like a tank. That reel and a cheap yellow Eagle Claw rod caught hundreds of trout back in the day. I have lighter and newer reels but I'm attached to it, so it always goes on a rod.
