has anyone used the kent ulitmate fast lead diamond shot

Gee... now there's a novel idea.

Putting the barrel in the right spot kills waaaay... more than speed.

Agree 100%--When you put the barrel in the right place----- especially if you do it a with speed for those that aren't afraid of a little recoil

As Scotty used to tell Captain Kirk--" You can't change the law of physics";)

Pretty amazing that 30yrs ago, a guy bought his shells by using a picture of a pheasant and duck on the box next to a #5 or #6 and went hunting and actually killed birds. ha ha

???? so there has been no improvement in shell/ammunition in 30 years??? and because those of us who were successful then--should not look for anything better--reminds me of the famous quote (if true) by a former head of the U.S. patent office "We should close the patent office--everything of value has already been invented" Charles Duell--1899

Here some more laws of physics for ya. What starts out faster also slows down faster. All that advantage in speed from the muzzle to say 20 yards over slower velocity loads had has been reduced substantially when it gets to say 40 yards. Personally, I would be more concerned about pellet size than velocity to insure adequate penetration.

Ballistics expert Tom Roster on "Speed kills" : http://www.shotgunlife.com/shotguns/tom-roster/does-speed-kill.html

My decades of lethality testing of lead and nontoxic shotshell loads for taking waterfowl and upland game birds have revealed the science-based reality that with lead and nontoxic tungsten-composite pellet hunting loads possessing lead shot equivalent pellet densities, all you need for effective (spelled: lethal) velocity is something near 1250 fps ? 50 fps. For steel loads, all that is needed is something near 1350 fps ? 50 fps. Launch velocities in excess of these benchmarks have not proven to increase lethality, but do help some shooters with their leads and thus hitting success

What starts faster may slow down faster--however--still going faster that then the one that started slower--

Do agree --shot side and speed are both factor

Regarding Rooster--(not proven that extra speed kills) also mean has not been disproven ==theory?:)

Been kind of boring here birdshooter--think this might liven things up:D

I'm certainly not one to refute Tom Roster's findings. He's been studying shotgun ballistics for decades.

If you read Rosters article from start to finish he states that all that velocity advantage of the higher velocity load is all but gone by 60 yards. Likely 90% at 40 yards. So.... If a load traveling 1250 fps kills just as cleanly at typical shotgun ranges as does one at 1500 fps what would be the advantage of using the faster one?

The point Roster is trying to make is taking game at normal shotgun ranges those velocity figures from decades of study are all that is needed. High velocity is over kill. Dead is dead. Now... there is coyote food dead and then there's dead that will feed your family. Recovery of game is the important thing to remember.

I think the new term should read "Speed sells" Marketing is a wonderful tool.

Yeah it is a little slow around here. Nothing like a speed kills debate to liven things up around here. :D

Huh??? I think everyone would agree that ammo today is better than "yester year" and I didn't say it wasn't. I also think anything you buy today in the proper shot size is more than enough under normal hunting ranges to cleanly take a pheasant.

You shoot what works for you and I'll shoot what works for me.

Reminds me of another famous quote - Author unknown. "Opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one."

However, I would agree with you in the fact is has been a little slow around here lately.

OK--deal--:) I agree with 100%h you second sentence:cheers: r

But regarding your third sentence as regarding opinions my argument it based on Newtons Second Law--not opinion--

But I due recognize you like everyone are entitled to your opinion :r :)

Tis gitten mor liveley

Don't know what happened there--not intentional--Whats a texicon?

Nope--can't figure those out--hope they are in good humor like the rest of this thread

And since we have about beaten this to death. I have a confession to make:eek:

Have a few Kent left (and I did like like them) but switched to B&P's in 12 and 28-- all but 20 gauge a few years ago--only reason not in 20 is that I had tons of Federal premium on the shelf :)

But speed does kill

It's using punctuation to express emotion. I thought this one was a new one. :r

Tried to send you PM--say's your in box is full--

I like some speed with steel shot, but otherwise I think it's "speed sells" these days.

With lead, "a uniform pattern of appropriately sized shot on target kills."

Well since they don't sell these shells in stores by me in wisconsin I will be using the Remington pheasant loads the black cased ones not the nitro

Kicks like a mule

One of our group brought down a case of these for our trip to South Dakota, said to help yourself. Everyone tried them and nobody wanted to shoot a second shell. Literally left several boxes at the lodge.

I use them in my 16b

I have been using them in 16 ga for several years and love them. One ounce of shot at 1220 fps and the pheasants just die. I don't think they kick in my sxs either.
Since these are working and working well maybe I should go to more shot at 1500 fps?

That's pretty much how it was until 1965. Ya , there were 3" 12s and 20s, mostly used for ducks and geese. In '65 Winchester came out with the 5X or whatever which had a plastic shoot collor and it thru patterns that were rather tight in a full choke. The evolution ran it's course with the shotcup wad combo and now we are looking for speed.
I still have some 16 ga paper shells that are at least 50 years old. I love the smell so I take one or two out on occasion and they still kill birds!
