Who remembers Shadow?

I think the guy was mostly lonely out there in western KS, and was not the most socially skilled on the internet.

According to at least one guy who met him, he wasn't all that socially skilled in person, either.

Maybe Shadow has been rehabilitated and could return, maybe he's out there, you know, with unwashed millions who are not "accredited" members. Lurking. Maybe a zombie, But, if he wears his ankle monitor, why not! It's Christmas, to forgive is Devine. I long to have a rip myself, but it's better coming from Shadow, makes us feel stupid and superior all at once. i'd sure like to hear the face to face meeting story.

I wasn't impressed with his overweight 2 ft backing, tongues hanging out dogs at all a fu65$#n joke

You might want to be careful, I would bet you that those dogs are pretty darn good on pheasants. They may not back at range like a setter or a pointer on quail, but on pheasants it takes a little pressure to make them hold.

And some of the post in the Roll Tide thread have Shadow tones to them ;)

i wen't down to see ol shadow before he got banned he brought his dogs and don't get it twisted they looked good great markins he let them loose and it was like a 10 ring circus he couldn't get them back to sve his a)()( finally after an hour and no birds produced they came dragging there tongues back definately not a pheasant dog in my opinion there are several members on here that can vouch for my britts and feel good about doing so

He stopped by here once. Had to show me his Britts. Same in person as on the blog. Merry Christmas Shadow!

No clue on this Shadow fella. I have been on this site since Jan 2009 and was on the old forum before that. No recollection.

For the most part this forum is rather tame compared to some waterfowler forums. Forums run a fine line between editing/controlling too much and allowing too much. If you let the trolls and bashers have too much room, they will run the forum into the ground.

I do have issue when a moderator is an active poster on threads they are also moderating :(

I guess I could not feel threatened by his posts since I owned the best wild pheasant hunting Brittany working the fields in the 00s. ;) Her ability to pin running roosters was unreal. I picked up (by hand) quite a few live roosters under her points in her time. I would never fear hunting a field right behind other hunters and their dogs. She would find birds they missed. When hunting alone we could hunt for hours without ever saying a word except dead bird. Well OK I digress, she was the best at least in the fields I was hunting in. Everyone has their favorite dogs.

It is just my opinion that moderators are users the same as you who volunteer to mostly keep things free of spam, approve new users, and do a few minor things asked by a site owner according to his rules. My self, for one would leave if I can not enjoy the interaction with others. No different then you. My self, I have part of me that does not care too much for this thread to be honest. It borders on mockery of another for one. Not sure that's right. As far as your concern, I can assure you moderators feel as if, were an easy target for those that will cause ruckus with most anyone. And given time they will show that.;)

This web site/forum may be tame in comparison to others but I prefer to think of as being properly moderated. I agree with what you say about there being a "fine line" and if you allow too much room and don't keep a handle on things it will ruin the forum. That's the line us Mods try to walk. We may not always be right in our judgement (no one's perfect) but overall I think we do a fine job.

Guess I'd like to know what your issue is in having a Mod as an active poster? We're just one of the guys like everyone else. Except we were selected by the site owners to help moderate the site. Pretty difficult to expect someone to monitor the site and not be able to contribute. There may be a few others that share your opinion but I firmly believe the vast majority of members on this site do not have a problem with us Mods also being active contributors.

Right about there is where we start inching toward the top of the slippery slope on an issue like this. It's where you have to make sure to draw your line between poster and moderator. Holding such an opinion is fine, but acting on it as a moderator in a benign thread like this would be crossing the line.

The bottom line is that Shadow went around raising absolute hell throughout the entire online upland hunting community for a lengthy period of time. As soon as he got banned from one place, he'd move on to the next. He made a ton of outlandish claims and if anyone even questioned their veracity, he told them to go suck rocks.

For all but a few of us, he's nothing but a caricature. Very few know his real name, or precisely where he lives, or anything else about him. There's no way he can be personally slandered by a thread that recounts some of his "greatest hits."

I to think this thread is mostly pointless.
I let it go because it branches into some stuff worth keeping.

The main reason the moderators are chosen as moderators on UPH is the fact that they have had a history of adding quality posts and information beneficial to the site.
To ask them to not contribute to a thread or help members as needed.
That is not going to happen.
Soon Y'all well notice a couple more members added to the "mod squad" everyone will agree, they've been valuable contributors.
There are more of you that would qualify.

Zeb: Deleting posts on threads that they are also actively posting on ...

I am not singling out UPH, it happens most everywhere. It is rare and only pertains to "hot topic" threads. Continuity is often thus lost and some posts appear senseless towards the topic at hand.
