Where are you heading this year?

Wondering where people are planning trips to hunt birds this year. I like to plan a couple trips until late season begins in MN. I'm considering a couple spots in North Dakota and several in South. I know a lot of people don't want to give away their hot spots but maybe a "I've been here and like it"

I know brood numbers will sway some people.

I'm going to take my annual Sept trip out through ND and MT. Check out a lot of areas, do a lot of upland hunting [Sharps and Huns] Also be checking out the pheasant populations. I'll get the spots narrowed down for the pheasant opener.

lots of trips to kansas for sure last year was my first time in the nw corner of the state and i liked it lots!! i will also go to the n central part of state as well for quail and parrots, chickens stay in missouri when i only have a few hours in the day and hunt quail

Maybe SD for the first time. NE opener for sure, then KS for the entire season.

I am taking my first trip out of Kansas.
Heading to Montana in October. Going to focus on Hun and Sharptail, but if a pheasant get on the end of the dogs nose, too bad for him :D

I can not wait. Huns look like they have to be as much fun as quail, only bigger

East into the great basin if I get my sage hen permit, way north for ruffies and quail if I don't. South to mojave for some gambles quail (this now an annual trip). Farther south along the Colorado river hopefully to meet up with Jmac for a hunt. I'm also hoping to hunt pheasants on the Oregon border around Tule lake and pray for some snow because I've always wanted to hunt pheasants in snow. I wanted to go to SD to meet some new friends but it doesn't look like its in the cards this year.:( Then there is the usual trips for mtn quail and pheasants in the rice and what ever spur of the moment trip JP and I decide on. Looks like I have a lot on my plate this year.:D

Will head to Montana Sept 1st for the opener for sharptails and huns, then will head to South Dakota since I just bought a house there (going up in the next few weeks). Will spend most of the season learning my way around, probably head to grasslands near Pierre looking for grouse and chickens. This season will be one long scouting mission. Hope to get a waterfowl permit also to try to whack a few ducks and geese. Excited about new places and hopefully some new friends.

We haven't made final plans yet, but Pa. is putting a lot of effort in it's pheasant program so we may stay closer to home.We were thinking about a trip to Minn.,but may wait to the population rebounds a little!

I will be doing the Marshall, Minn. trip again this year the morning after Halloween. Always do good there at that time. I would love to stay the extra night and hunt the next day, but, well, work eh?

Someday, SD will be crossed off of my bucket list. Got a line on something for this year. We'll see...

$200 - $300 still cheaper than hunt club.
Going to have to make a trip to the property in Iowa to see how the re-seeding developed and it's impact on wildlife, and perhaps meet up with c-fan.
Going to S D in November with sh4life, and perhaps hook up with d-zeb...maybe others.

Have pretty much talked myself into accepting an invitation to hunt NW Wisconsin, just south of Lake Superior. A friend has a house up there, and has been pushing for me to come up.

Dunno. Mick, the new, used, dog is a Springer. I'd be more confident if I had one of my late, great wirehairs. Also hearing about the gazillions of ticks makes my skin crawl a bit, and I worry about the dog. I'm using all the preventative meds, but....

That said, I've only gotten...maybe...8 or 9 grouse down where I am, over the 24 years I've been here. Just not the right habitat...well, that, and (I SWEAR) there were two grouse who would wait for me to come up on the junk-treed ditch they lived in, and watch for me to look the other way. Then one would launch out, and I'd carefully fire behind it, two times. As I reloaded the shotgun, the second bird would fly out.

Happened at least five times. I never learned. :(

Maybe I'll go. Time's passing and well...time's passing.

Kis, I was under the impression that springers were fine grouse dogs. Mick will learn the game fast.

Did you hunt in Marshall last year? We were there several times the previous three years but didn't bother in 2011. They were hit with a very bad Spring last year.

Looks like we are going to Nebraska this year to chase phez and quail. Then chase quail here in Indiana for the rest of the year.

SD opening week for me as usual. Maybe a second trip to SD or Iowa if I'm lucky.

Save a few birds, I won't be up till second weekend this year. I have a work commitment I can't get out of. Also will be back up second week of December. Kansas opener as always. Might be going out to nebraska this year also.
