Whats everyone shooting?

After opening weekend last year I was cleaning my gun and noticed a hair line crack in barrel. With not many after market or replacement parts for my current gun I think Its time to break down and buy a new one.

What is everyone shooting these days? Any recommendations?

Looking at budget friendly field gun, semi auto 12ga or even open to 20. Versa Max, Franchi, 11-87, SPX3?

Old guns handed down from my dad. Haven't felt a need to get something else, and the sentimental value is priceless. Browning Light 12 A5 and a Superposed 12. Did buy a steel shot capable barrel for the A5. Would love to add a Citori 725 20 at some point.

When pheasant hunting:
1951 Remington 870 Wingmaster 16 ga., fixed skeet2 choke.

When quail hunting:
1969 Remington Wingmaster 20 ga., fixed I/C

When teal or dove hunting:
a brand new Remington 11-87 20 ga.

When duck or goose hunting:
early Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag.

When I think of budget minded semi autos the first gun that comes to mind is a stoeger. It's like my SBEII on a budget.

I just bought a new SBE II and love it and gave my 17 year obd SBE to my son.

My son bought Frannchi Infinity 12ga 26" last year. Handles/carries good, cycles 3" to light dove loads without issue.

Me Sweet 16 and model 37 16.

Franchi Veloce 20 bore (26" barrels) w/ Cyl and Skeet for quail.
Imp-cyl or mod for ditch parrots.

Benelli montefeltro silver 20 bore (26" barrel)....handles very well and light weight.

My fav is the old A-5 light 12 w/ 26" (mod) barrel. However I rarely carry it in the field as I'm hunting over my LLewellin's and rarely need anything more than a 20ga....

CZ 612 field pump

I got burned with an expensive gun. Never again. This year I will hopefully shoot a cz field pump. 6.2 pound 12 gauge. 14.5 LOP

Under $400 so I can use it to plow through the thick stuff I always seem to find myself in.

Ithaca 200e 12g w/26" barrels. My first "real" shotgun was a Browning Light(er) 20 A5. Hunted with that for 20+ years. Replaced it with the Ithaca that's probably older. The Browning is now a safe queen.

I'd second the Stoeger. Very good gun at a great price. It has a similar inertia system as the Benelli's. I've had a Stoeger Auto for around 15 years. While it doesn't get a lot of use it has never failed me. I use to have a Benelli Montefeltro and could switch between it and the Stoeger as both felt the same.

I use a gun that fits me pretty well.

I've had a Browning Gold Hunter 12g I bought new in 1998 or 99 - used it exclusively for a # of years.

Then switched back and forth between it and a Spanish Eibar made 20g SxS - still have it and like the gun, but the quality was not the greatest - looks cool though. (Maybe the quality could be fixed but I've had problems with the firing pins getting stuck in the fired shells and not being able to break the gun open and 2 or 3 times when you slam the gun shut it's went off. Luckily I try to be as anal retentive about practicing muzzle safety as humanly possible, it only shot the dirt in front of me. I've just never found a competent machinist or gun smith that wouldnt charge me many times what the gun is worth to go over it. It really is a cool gun so if anyone knows a competent gunsmith that wont try to rob/pillage me please let me know.

3 or 4 years ago bought a 20g SKB model 385 sxs w choke tubes - it's the only one I use now. Leave the imp and imp mod cylinder choke tubes in and try not to shoot unless the birds are pointed and close. Really like the gun - it's pretty light and want to buy another model 385 or 485 SKB - if anyone ever comes across one let me know.

I like the CZ ringnecks as well - just have never bought one - plan to hopefully in the next 2-3 years once the wife becomes a nurse and has her BSN.

A browning BSS is on the wish list, however they are usually overpriced and I dont think they made a model with choke tubes.

I've tried some other guns, really wanted my go to gun to be a rem 1100 LT 20 my grandpa passed down to me - however the thing never fit me - I couldnt hit squat with it, no matter what adjustments I made - I finally gave up on it after a few years and sold it to buy another that worked for me - Think my G-pa only used it once or twice and it wasnt one of his go to guns -- his favorite was sold years before and I still need to write a letter to the person that bought it to see if he still has it or may want to sell it back. Win pre-64 Mod 70 220 Swift. I've been meaning to write the letter to the guy just have not done so. That needs to be done this fall.

I hunt with a 1974 Remington 1100 12 GA auto. Wonderful gun that I've never had jam. For waterfowl and turkey I use an Ithaca Ultra Light 12 ga with a 3 1/2" mag barrel. I've also got a Remington 1148 20 ga. automatic that I carry from time to time and a Remington 870 express that you can't beat for reliability. I carry this guy if it's snowing or raining or otherwise is nasty...I could keep going but you guys all have the same affliction I'm sure. I've got a buddy that shoots a Stoeger auto and it's been a great gun for him for very little $.
