Lost my old pal on Saturday night. Aged 8 years and one of the best all around good hearted dogs on the planet. Very very gentle soul. She was one stubborn hard headed english pointer but she was great and my little girls best friend. She will be missed.

I am sorry for your loss. Prayers to you and your family.

Very sorry for your loss. Regardless of how many times we go through this, it never gets any easier. We develop a unique relationship with each one of them and each one is just as special as the other. Cherish the memories as they stay forever.

Just went through the same last week...sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear this, a pat on the back and a it's OK friend from me, time will help heal your pain but you will never forget her

My sincere condolences. I had to say goodbye to my Maggie Mae a few years ago.

It's always so hard and they stay for such a short time.
Once read about a 6 yr old boy who said it best as to why dogs don't live as long as we do. After being there when the vet put the old dog down he offered this reason

He said,''People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?'' The Six-year-old continued,

''Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.''

Sorry to hear that, RT. Especially at that age, those are some of the best years, IMO. My condolences to you and your daughter.

My condolences regarding your pup Tim. I was just just contemplating losing mine last night, and even the thought is painful.

Very sorry to hear this. Best advice I ever got when I lost a dog: get another one without delay.

Thanks for the advice and thanks to everyone for their condolences. My little one is pretty upset about it and watching her loss is harder on me than losing Maggie.

I already have a spare so we are just going to be a one dog home for awhile. But when I do get another one (I'm already thinking on it) I might just have to go for a setter or maybe a britany or a wire hair pointer. Just so many choices. I'm getting too old to keep up with english pointers. My legs just don't have the go that theirs do.

It is amazing how much we can love a dog. I almost get afraid to let mine out of my sight anymore. This week I was in diamondback country working on my son's garden in his yard. My dog was running around and let out a yelp as she went past a log on the ground. I hastened over there with my hoe to look for "the snake", but thankfully there wasn't one. She had hit her leg on a limb protruding from the log. The blow only numbed it for a few moments, thankfully.

I'm very sorry for your loss and a young dog at that. If there is any blessing to be had at all from losing a faithful companion dog, it is the opportunity to love another one. They sit side by side in your heart and one never "replaces" the predecessor. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Sorry for your loss

I lost my GSP Pepper on the 28th of Feb, he was was 13 and had a good life. The hardest part of having a good bird dog is knowing they will not be with us for as long as we would like. I will always value the hunts we had together.

Tom
