took the ol' boy to kansas for two days, had a great trip, told him next time he bought a new beretta o/u to get one that was already trained. he did finally shoot a couple of birds over point and managed to do so before he ran out of shells. birds ran alot but he was fortunate to still see some pretty good dog work and in years like this, to see what one is up against without dogs. one bird i shot at,(bragging) sailed out to right at 350 yards before it fell in wheat stubble, divot marked the fall and ran right to it, kinda lucky but got the bird. that was a long mark

no blisters that he mentioned, as far as the tail and color goes, the farther west you hunt in kansas and the more the dogs get to chase pheasants they just kinda get that way. always happened to me anyway

Sounds like it was a really fun weekend! But I gotta give you a little S, as it is your nature...:eek: I thought all birds were stone dead in the air from your load of 7.5's?:confused: Bless me, pastor, for I have sinned.:D

good way to sin. actually with the 7.5's i try and wound one every now and then so the dog can keep in shape chasing them down, they need the exercise ya know. actually when i first read it i thought you were that character in calif. that harasses quail with his mutts. he uses a 28 ga. also when he finds something to shoot at. season has come to an end for me, had a good one actually especially with the conditions we were face with. keep on a sinning

Lol, you mean these mutts?:cheers: I'm just glad these here quail are tame so I don't have to lug around a 12ga to kill a few.:D

thems must be the ones. look like the type anyway. nobody should have to lug around a 12ga. when they could have fun using a 28 ga. gun that knocks em' down, mostly. i'm being nice today, just never seems to see that kinda dog in the field, don't see em' sitting on the couch either for that matter. must be all lost in a thicket someplace on calif., maybe they are so good kansas outlawed them, donno

Oh no, they love the couch.:D Setternut seems to think its illegal to hunt bobs with them so maybe they are outlawed in Kansas.:confused:

that's really disgusting letting the dogs hog the couch, never would happen in my house, gsp's have way too much class for that. we won't go there with setters though

If I want to get them off the couch I just bring out my guitar and play a song. They don't seem to have an ear for my playing.:eek:

that's ok, my skin is the same thickness as my dogs head, no problem here, some however don't share that trait. if truth be known, if i were younger, i would try a pudelpointer,not cause they may be better, just a different dog. i also would have liked to hunt behind a setter, maybe for quail but ruffs and timberdoodles would be great, and if a springer could keep up, would like to hunt behind one of them also, they just don't seem to be where i happen to be. too bad for me i guess, will pick anyway
