looking for a new vest

I was the lucky birthday recipient of a Filson Tin Cloth Strap Vest this past month. I feel a bit yuppy (is that even still a word?) but I can't deny that I'm stoked about it. The quality and craftsmanship are superb. This is my first Filson garment and I imagine that it will last the rest of my life.

Well I didn't pick up the wing works vest like I originally planned. Just to much for the pocket book. Was out hunting the other day with out a vest just a pocket full of shells and my waterfowl game strap. I loved the freedom of motion and no weight on my shoulders. I liked it so much I just picked this up from Cabela's tonight.

I loaded it up with two water bottles, full box of shells and all I can say is wow. Never felt any heavier then it did empty. I can't wait to try it in the field hunting and use it when it is hot out training in the summer. You also can't beat the price. $39.99

Nice looking Bird Belt and a decent price. I just don't like the birds hanging down my legs and dragging through the weeds and brush. I have the WingWorks strap vest and it is great. Quality second to none and it gets thw eight off your shoulders and on your hips. And the game bag is very easy to load. Difficulty in loading the game bag is a common complaint on many of the strap vests.

If I lived in a state that had a lot of wild pheasants I might not like it but in WI all the pheasants I have shot are small. I mainly hunt woodcock as we don't have a good grouse population down by me and I enjoy a wild flush in the woods more then a put and take bird in the field. I don't think I will even notice a woodcock on the neck hook. Worse case is I don't like it and will use it all spring and summer when running the dogs. Carrying a water bottle around in my hand got old really fast this summer. Going to hopefully get out for a hour after work tomorrow so I can give a review.f everything goes right I can hit one of them little guys.

Hip Pack

Jasper,

I have he same "Hip Pack" combo. It's great for the water bottles when it's warm. There's plenty of room for anything you might need. I've had mine 5 months and have used it a lot up to this point.

Camelback

I have the camelback upland strapvest and like it alot has a 70oz bladder that the dogs and I can drink from and room for more H20. it has a front load too so no issues gettin the bird in there.

New vest.

I have a Cabela's bird dog training vest. I see they don't make or sell it any more. It has a place for a water bladder in the back. And, tons of storage. I hope they have one like it when this one wears out. I really like it.

I need a new hunting vest this year. I want one that holds water for the dogs or has room for it, safari colors (no camo or blaze orange), and hold up to a few years of abuse. I'm tired of buying these cheap ones each year and want somethig nice that will last. I like filsons gear but don't know if they're worth the money. What do you guys think, are they worth it, what do you like and what works for you? Thanks for your thoughts and opinions.

OK, I got a new catalog today and this was in it. I don't know about it's water carrying ability:

Hope this helps.
