What? Are chewing the head, legs and wings off? :D

I'm like OldDublin though, when in the field the pheasants never see a knife, Gerber Gameshears is where its at.

Here are some of mine

I too never use a knife in the field. I only use a knife when I butcher the birds prior to cooking. For the field, I use Fiskars pruning shears. They work great and are half the price of a pair of game shears.

You have some nice looking steel there, Cheesy. I appreciate you posting the info. I'm in the process of ordering a knife of my own from David Winston.

Gosh, without this thread it never would have occurred to me that I need a custom knife. THANKS UPH!:laugh: Seriously though, I'm getting excited about it. I'm sure I'll be like a kid with a new toy when it arrives...

Very nice Cheesy

Here's a dandy

Really like the scrimshaw on that knife. Never shot a hog, but hope to ge a nice one sometime and do a Euro mount on it showing off the tusks.

I have a Marbles (sp?) but the knife I use is a Green River. Not much to look at but it holds an edge very well. I don't know much about Green River, my Dad got it for me as a gift when I retired Grandad's old Buck.

It came on Saturday! Just in time for me to start showing it off to friends this weekend.:D Now I have a truly custom knife that was hand made just for me, to last a lifetime! The handle is caribou antler, and I ordered the pins and had them shipped to Mr Winston for use on my knife. It's not a pin that he has used before, so I can say that my knife is truly one-of-a-kind.

FWIW, he was really friendly, responsive, and accommodating over the phone and email. The quality of the product is excellent, and I would not hesitate to buy from him again (if I had the extra $$). Buying a custom knife was so much fun, maybe I need to start saving my pennies for a custom shotgun.

Sorry for the crappy quality of the pictures. I'll try to take some better ones that show the pins.

hope I didn't make you feel bad...don't they make an app. for that. lol
My eyes won't focus that well, can't wait to see it in all it's glory!

Owning a Winston myself and having looked at several others by David and his son Jason, you're going to love that knife.

Thanks for the reply and the info. This thread really got me thinking about a custom knife, and I've been looking at them for a couple days now online. Geez, some of the work that guys are putting into these knives, WOW! I never would have imagined the beauty they can put into what is basically a hand tool. I was really drooling over one that would be ideal for field dressing game... It was only $1200.00. It had some really nice scrollwork on the handle. If I had money to throw around , I could see myself collecting those things...

Seriously though, I think I would be willing to drop $200-$300 for a hand made knife. Sure beats the price of a hand made shotgun. So many things are mass produced and disposable, it would be nice to own one that was hand made by a craftsman instead of a factory.[/QUO
