Still a few days left before we can bird hunt. Just wondering if anybody has tagged out on their deer yet? If so, post up some stories and pics. If not,,, any good stories of the one that got away?
My daughter tagged a young doe in the youth season with her new .243, and it was delicious! I'm starting to think young deer are the way to go!
I nearly filled both of my tags on Halloween morning. I had a young buck push some does right by my stand not long after sunrise on Halloween. I was just going to video the little buck with the camera I mounted on my bow, but he turned perfectly broadside at exactly 20 yards and stood there for way too long, and I already had my bow pointed at him so I could video him... Plus I was thinking about how tender and delicious my daughter's young deer was, so I went ahead and let fly. Double-lung shot and he was down on the trail within 50 yards.
Then the does that he had been chasing circled around and one of them stopped in front of my stand broadside at 20 yards. I was thinking, "this is the best possible scenario!" I couldn't believe my luck, thinking I would butcher both deer at the same time. Anyway, it wasn't to be... When I took my shot at the doe, it was across my 2-person stand instead of out the front. The limb on my bow smacked against the shooting rail, sending my arrow into the dirt and the does headed for the hills.
So anyway, I've still got an antlerless tag left and will hopefully fill it by this weekend. It will be nice if our venison supply lasts a little longer this year. Seems like we are always out by February.
I hope you all are having good luck, and would love to hear your stories.
