Anybody tag out yet?

BDC2, good for you, man! So it's not a wallhanger... Big whoop. Ya can't eat the antlers!

Maynard I accidently shot one yesterday that looked just like that. Made for an hour season. Oh well:) I will fill the doe tag in January. Was my first deer though, so that was pretty cool. I've gone out a couple of times over the years but this year I was bound and determined. ;) Next year we'll get something bigger.

Lets see, how many wise cracks can we come up with.(all in fun best deer meat is young deer meat)

Did you need help dragging her out?
Here, let me get you a quart zip lock bag for the meat.

Seriously, if its brown, its down
Congrats !!

you sound like my wife! First she asks me if I ate the heart. No I tell her. She says.. what to small to find? Then my daughter started in.
You shot bambi's little brother. Wait wait! Its mambi:D

Rifle season opened yesterday, but the bucks are still nocturnal.

With the overcast skies during the day, and a very bright moon at night, it actually seems brighter out at 10:00 PM than it does at 5:00 PM. It's no wonder the deer are so active at night.

BDC2, anybody that gives you any chit is just jealous of your shooting skills. Any jackwagon can shoot a huge buck. It takes a real marksman to bullseye a tiny buck like that! Seriously though, congrats on your first deer. That will be some fine eating for sure.

This thread is gonna be great for some laughs...I just wish I had more "small deer" jokes so I could join in. BTW, it looks to be the same size as the one we got last year and I am not ashamed. We too are meat-hunters. We'll leave the horns for the sit-n-waiters:thumbsup:

You guys are cracking me up. Toad reminded of something else.
I took the deer into Sawyer , great guys btw. A couple of young guys and there familys from Ohio. Huge deer on the walls, kids running around. A great place.

Anyway I'm sitting on the tailgate watching these guys skin this deer out. I'd hit it a bit high. When they get to the bullet hole the younger one say's to me with a straight face. What? Buck fever. Then cracked a big old smile. I about died!

 all!

Whew, I thought you had shot one of your dogs by accident. But when I magnified my screen to 1000% i realized it was indeed a deer. Are you sure that isn't a doe with a little branch caught on her head. But hey there are some bright spots:

1. You only need a couple of quart sized bags to hold the meat.

2. you won't need to waste money on a new freezer, hell really the little freezer space in one of those little mini fridges would probably have enough room for the deer and a couple quarts of ice cream.

3. You won't have to worry about having a bunch of meat left at the end of the year.

4. Best of all you could have the mount made into a little necklace. You know like a shark tooth or a pooka shell. That way you would be able to prove your story.:D:D:D:D

A couple more, all in good fun:
Did you have a handkerchief handy to wipe the milk from it's lips?
Was it really a too-high shot or maybe a too-low shot at mama?
I've never thought of carrying spray paint to cover the spots for the picture...

We've all done it. Button bucks traveling alone during the antlerless season suffer a high mortality rate. Congrats and enjoy the meat.

That's BDC2's deer watching KU on TV.

Hey BDC2 I hope you saved the cape, it would make a cool hand puppet. That is if you have hands like a 5 year old:D

Ok so I drove out and picked up my deer tonight. I walk in to get it, exchange greetings and the husband and wife head to the back. A couple minutes go by and here comes the wife with my box of deer. We stand there a while not really knowing what to say to each other so I pull out the cash. You know money talks.:D I get her paid and I'm starting to get impatient , wondering were this guy is at. About that time he walks out carrying a broom. So I politely ask, you know hey Guy whats with the broom?

"Shhh! That damn cats got your horns!"

was it a shoe box?

My youngest son was back last weekend to fill his tag and didn't. Now my oldest son is here to fill his and we are in a dense fog. Not used to this in western Kansas. Between not so favorable hunting conditions and a deer population that is way down, it is going to be tough to put a tag on a wall hanger this year. Not even many doe available.

I did stop in the fog to take a picture of some quail and after a few minutes of sitting there taking pictures, these pheasants come from behind me and land in the weeds.

I has been a tough weekend to hunt deer. Dense fog like I am not used to. On Saturday it finally cleared mid afternoon and the winds were 30+. My son and I did not connect. It was a good time together and good to see the pheasant, quail and turkey.

This morning it is pouring.

Saturday evening I was treated to another beautiful sunset on the prairie. The tall plant in my grass is maximilian sunflower.
