Any dangerous natural features you encounter while hunting?

The day after I bought my started setter for 3k I took him for a run in a hay field with a ditch running beside it. We ran into some turkeys and the dog took off after them. The turkeys flew across an area with no trees because the water had eroded the ditch and cause a nice drop off. At full speed, dog only watching the turkeys, ran off the edge. He disappeared ratter quickly. I could only think telling my wife the dogs done for one day after getting him. Ran over to the ditch, he seemed ok after the launch, helped him out. Never have told my wife this story.

The most dangerous thing I have encountered (yet) was a creek side coon den. Thankfully my setter only chose to tangle with one of the five that poured out of that hole. Why he decided to jump into the creek instead of fighting on the ground I would love to know.... If you ever doubted that a coon will stand on a dogs head in the water, they do. I don't think it was intentionally to drown the dog, he was just the only thing to stand on. Other than a few scratches and a dozen more gray hairs we are none the worse for it. I would not recommend.

5 Coyotes surrounding your bird dog down in a ditch is not cool. Especially when you only have an O/U.....

Duck hunting went out in waders to retrieve decoys at the end of the day. Became trapped in the muck up to my waist and could not move. Of course I was alone, no phone an it was cold. Took me well over an hour to work my way out. Never doing that again. I take the duck skiff.

Last season hunting partner tried to cross a 3 foot wide ditch. He stepped about 2'11" and went down to his arm pits. Now we all bring extra change of clothes just in case. he didn't have any and it was COLD.

Dog got caught in a snare and I didn't see her until I was a good 80 yards away - and walking away from her. She kept struggling to get loose to catch up and mad it worse. Did not have any tools an somehow was able to get that thing off her. Still do not know how.

Same dog tried to jump over a tall barbed wire fence chasing a downed bird. Her leg got tangled in the top two wires and one wire flipped over the other trapping her hanging from one leg upside down. I thought it was going to be like a horse that breaks a leg. Got her loose and she went and made the retrieve like nothing happened.

And cars.... that's my biggest fear is dog getting hit. Friends dog got killed while we were out hunting. That was very sad.
