2016-17 Pheasant Season

Made it out a couple times this week. I was able to take two birds on Monday and passed on one rooster on Friday. The dogs did move 14 hens on Friday with a lot of points. I won't shoot as many birds in the late season and prefer to leave them in the fields for a few good months of dog work.

Sounds like you got into some action!

We hunted a piece of private farmland that is off limits in the earlier part of the year. We managed to find a couple of birds but they didn't offer a realistic shot.
The farmer said that there had been a real late hatch due to some early wet weather and that some birds are just now getting their full colors, that's real late!

Glad you guys are still on them we got out yesterday for a late quick hunt then maybe another quick one this Saturday. Then back to ducks now that some water has opened back up.

Way to go! Drake is sure earning his keep, make sure Santa treats him well!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Well we got out for a quick hunt and Drakes had a great year so I carried my Dads .410 today almost took his 16ga but with the rain I thought I'd give them a chance. Told Drake to put one up in my face click on top photo for a video.. and yes I still laugh like a kid never gets old..lol

Merry Christmas to All.

PA Late season

My buddy and I got out with the dogs for a late season hunt on game lands 43 took a few hens but I agree with hollow watcher left some for late season dog work. Heading to Iowa between Christmas and New Year to hunt with my son with his 2 Brittanys, might be his old girls last, so sad. I have a 11 month old and a 5 year brittany, trying to get the young girl as many birds under her nose as possible. Between PA, SD, and Iowa hope to have 40 shot over her this year. Cannot beat bird exposure!!

Good luck in Iowa! What part of the State? Hope the weather holds up for you, be safe!

Drake is having a remarkable year!

I shot my first Ringneck on Thanksgiving Day 1968 with a 410, I have that bird mounted. I had to sell my bike to help pay for it.

Hi all, been busy deer hunting the last few weeks, mainly just sitting bored in the woods looking at this website with the great pics of dogs & birds while looking forward to the late season. Decided to skip the late PA pheasant season and instead head over to NJ to look into spots just in case PA did away with the pheasant stocking...

Tried some new spots out, with the mornings being for pheasants then the afternoons for quail. Ended up with 2 roosters and 3 quail day 1, and 2 quail day 2. First time hunting quail and they are a blast! I don't know the exact number of shells it took me to get 3 quail day 1 but I had to buy a new box to go out after them day 2...

Heck of a trip Rusty! You won't be disappointed with NJ..they do a better job releasing the birds and they also have quail which is really cool and offer a diverse hunting landscape. I think you will be just fine as you are with in driving distant to both PA and NJ. I too will be spending some more time in my home state..sometimes I think I care more about pheasant hunting in PA then do most people that live there.

x2 on what Hollow said! NJ does a great job with their Pheasant Program!

Looks like you guys had a great hunt! Thanks for sharing!

Looks like a fun time. I've always enjoyed chasing quail with the dogs.

I've been getting out some with the dogs but just haven't had the time to post some pictures. Went to a preserve on Monday and had a great time. The dogs did well with some great retrieves on some wing tipped birds. I did lose Blitz for at least 20 minutes before we found him pointing a chukar. Maybe lll get some pictures up sometime.

NC Iowa hunt

Hunted south of forest city conditions were tough 4 to 8" of crushed snow very hard on the dogs. Hunted 4 1/2 days with my son and logged over 50 miles between us. Little 11 month old brittany did well, had well over 50 productive points. Found hen to rooster ratio about 12 to 1, bagged 10 roosters had a great hunt. I will try Iowa next year under better conditions. Hunted all public land.

Spending time like that with your son is priceless! Sounds like a great hunt considering! Any pictures?
