Began our 2016 Season this past Wednesday. Rusty turned 10 back in June and I didn't know what to expect. He hunted hard for 4 days, pointed over a dozen+ birds and I ended up knocking down 7. Some pics from the last 4 days below.

First pic was from day 1 where he still had plenty left in the tank, pic 2 is from day 4 Saturday and the gas tank was on empty.

I took the day off and went out with two of the dogs to the local gamelands. The dogs had a great day with many points and tracking of running birds. Less than five minutes from the start of the day they worked a bird that I missed. That would be the theme of the day. After a couple of wild flushes Blitz finally pinned the bird in a food plot that I missed. The hawk that flew after that bird missed it as well. After that the dogs produced a nice six point buck and even a bobwhite quail. The quail surprise me when it flushed and I even shouldered to the gun thinking it was the Woodcock at first. I guess somebody was doing some training on the gamelands. After a few more misses I was finally able to connect on two roosters to finally and the day.

Happy Halloween!

I find my PP enjoys water more than GSPs. since I also hunt waterfowl, it works well for me. She points the same as a GSP or GWP. one big difference is the coat attracts every briar or sticker imaginable. i spend about 30 minutes after a hunt just brushing her out. Also extremely soft handed. when i started training her she would need very little force or e-stim for correction. It might just be this particular dog but she does not care about any other dogs in the field. She is fine with other dogs but will ignore them all to focus on the task at hand or on me. I hunt with a couple other guys and sometimes I dont even think she realizes they have dogs with them. I cant say she ever busted any of thier points either and will only go look for their birds if i send her. My wife says that is because she is in love with me, the dog that is. My wife doesnt hunt.

Diehard,

Thanks for the comparison report! Sounds like you have a good companion there, and sharing it with your son and watching both of them grow together is priceless!

Thanks and I agree. He has off school on Friday and already asked if we can go pheasant hunting. Looking forward to another great weekend. With him doing most of the shooting I plan to take the 28SxS along for some woodcock.

Hunted after work today for about 1.5 hours with all 3 dogs. They had a couple of points that produced multiple hens which was exciting to see. I did manage one rooster off a point and had to pass on a 2nd rooster for safety reasons that came off a point from Nittany. It was good to get the old guy out since he'll be 12 in a few weeks. By the end of the day we put 8 hens and two roosters in the air with all of them coming of points. Plus the dogs had some unproductive points.

Hopefully some of you get out this weekend. Saturday is our PF Chapter's youth hunt but I can't attend this year since Connor has a make up football game. This will be the first hunt in about 8 years that I didn't guide with at least one of my dogs. It should be a good day for the kids.

Went to a new place today just for a change of scenery..it's a very popular place and gets hunted hard. Chipper progresses every time out and gets it a little bit more each outing. He did his job today..good boy Chipper!

Great job, Drake and I with a solo hunt today I made him work for it my shooting was a little off..:nutz:

Go get em Drake! Boy he is having some season! :10sign:

Good job guys. I wasn't able to make it out today. But don't feel too bad for me. I was asked to guide on a private preserve tomorrow. They will be putting out 70 quail and 12 pheasants. I hope my dogs can find a bird or two.

Enjoy the game!
