2016-17 Pheasant Season

Sounds like a fun day tomorrow for you enjoy....Drakes having his best year I think we have shot 28 birds off of him this year and he has flushed over 60 birds he's locked in. I was laughing today walking a log road back because I was tired and limited out and he wouldn't stop quartering in the brush to the truck I told him give it up were done relax but he has one gear till he's beat...lol

Way to go Rusty! Just curious , will Rusty retrieve the Woodcock ?

I was able to get out a little bit on Thursday and managed to bag one rooster of a point. The dogs pointed a second bird in some standing corn but I'm not able to hunt that area so I had to call them off. We also found a few hens which made for some nice dog work.

I had Friday off so I went to the gamelands. It was busy up there with quite a few people hunting. It seemed every turn I made lead me to a different group. Early on we produced a woodcock that I passed on due to safety reasons. I knew there was another person in the area but I wasn't sure where. Since the bird never got very high I didn't feel comfortable on taking the shot. It would have been the easiest shot on a woodcock I ever had. After that another person's dog would not leave Blitz and Champ alone. I tried to go in the opposite direction and my dogs followed but the other dog kept following us and didn't want to listen to its owners. Eventually we moved on and found another person with a dog. I was able to stay away but at that time I decided to head back to the truck and find another area. I had the next place to myself which was nice. The dogs ended up pointing 8 different hens plus two roosters that I was able to take. Saturday will be our PF vet hunt which will give the dogs plenty of work.

Enjoy your weekend if you get out.

I went for pheasant yesterday but also found an unexpected turkey.

Veteran's Day hunt with my son.

thanks. No complaints so far this season although Saturday's opener in Jersey was crazy crowded. I felt like I was at the county fair there was so many people.

NJ can be crazy on Saturdays and stocking days. The NJ Fish and Game do a good job with their stocking program, if we decide to get some dog work in we'll go on the non- stocking days and usually can find some birds.

That was one of those special birds on an equally special day!

Chip just turned 6 months. He is far exceeding my expectations for his age. If you remember we were debating wether we were going to hunt him this season, boy what a difference a few weeks make! He still acts like a pup when he comes across another dog or hunter but he is really getting it on finding birds! He's even been given an education on wild birds! We really shouldn't have been surprised, his back round is all Dugan's family!

Haven't heard much about Champ! How's he progressing? Hunt test?

Champ is doing fine but no hunt tests are coming up. They have been busy hunting but I just haven't much time to post. I was out on Monday which was a very windy hunt. The dogs did well and I bagged one bird. On Tuesday I was out again and managed to get two birds. Nittany was along on Tuesday and had a few points.

Thanks for the PM.

Thankfully the rifle season is over. I took the dogs out for a quick Sunday morning run close to home and moved 11 hens (no roosters). I was only out for about 30 minutes but the dogs sure did enjoy it. Looking forward to the rest of the season when there is less people out.
