I was creeping on the hunting group builder and read how carptom got his name, reminded me how I got mine and started to think about some of the other names on here.....
I'll go first!

I shot a few big bucks a couple years in a row, the registration station/sporting goods store owner asked where I shot them every time I went in with one. I only told him Dewey township because I didn't want to give up the goods!
The sports shop would put the pictures in the paper, the guy would put captions by the picture "Dewey Bagger shoots monster buck"
My brother in law would shoot one and the guy would write," so and so shoots big buck while hunting with the Dewey Baggers" we'd laugh our ars off when we'd see the papers..... Then it just stuck after 10 years!

I grew up with a coonskin cap nearly fused to my head until I was forced to remove it by my mother and peer pressure from the "cool kids"... I was one of FIVE" Davids in my class so we all had nicknames - the "crockett" thing stuck some 20years later!

My slice of mountains used to be known for lots of houndsmen running bears (until it was banned). So one day I was out and I decided it would be funny to put one of my dogs up on top of the dog box like the houndsmen do. I came around a corner and was stopped by a game warden who remarked on my "funny looking hounds" and that he'd "never seen any like them before". I told him that's because they're English quail hounds, showed him a brace of mountain quail and shared a good laugh.:D

Had to check the spelling of a word one day and took out the dictionary (remember those? Paper BOOKS with alphabetical listing of words and their meanings. Before spell-check and pixels)

As usual, I ended up wandering through the dictionary and saw "kismet," defined as "Turkish or Arabic 'qismet' meaning fate, destiny, or portion of life."

I figure this is my portion of life. Turns out there's an MIT robot with the same name. I'm not the robot. :)

Mine came from when I was little. My big brother (blackcloud) would take me hunting:thumbsup: And to pass the time I made up my favorite super hero Captaincoot:) I would tell BC all about his might adventures saving his fellow feathered friends:thumbsup: That's how I would explain all of BC misses:D: Nice thread:thumbsup:

When I got my first Brittany back in the mid 90's I named him Rocky since he came from the Rocky Mountain state of Colorado. His sire's name was Zeb (for Zebulon Pike). So Rocky's registered name was Zeb's Dakota Rocky. So by switching the words a little my handle became Dakotazeb.

Since I am in the cattle business I do a lot of making hay. It was my CB handle back in the trucking days.

Oh yeah, the old CB handles. I kind of miss the days when everyone had a CB. It was fun visiting with folks from all over the country as you were running down the road. My handle back then was "The Contender" because I carried a Thompson Center Contender 44 Mag. pistol.

When I joined this site in 2008, I was planning to get a new lab pup and name it Toad. I ended up not getting a lab pup at all...

I got a started GWP instead and named her Daisy because she was way too graceful and dainty for the name Toad.

So there's really no significance to my username at all. But I'm glad it's not Daisy.

Way back when, when hunting forums were getting their start I was a big duck hunter, 3-4 times a week so I picked dukhnter. The 7 is from my favorite drink, Jack Daniels old #7. My current pointing lab's name is Jack. Thinking about getting a chocolate and naming him Coke so I will always have Jack and Coke with me when I hunt!

P.S. Old CB handle was the Mud Rat:cheers:

Mine also dates back to CB days when I adopted a nickname I picked-up during my apprenticeship . . . KOJA (Kiss Old Jim's . . . "Arm?" lol.).

I used to be a pretty hard core bass fisherman. Spent a lot of time (and $$) tournament fishing and chasing those crazy fish and was pretty active on a lot of bass blogs and boards. I can't keep all darn internet names and and passwords straight, so just kept the same name I used on the bass stuff. Was/is the model boat I run.

Getting old so I used something I could remember--you know I'm from? SD and my first name is? Jim hell even I can remember that.

1pheas4 comes from my experiences chasing pheasants in SD. Often one birds will flush then more begin to pop up:). So, as it goes 1 pheasant flushes, then 4 more flush.

I suppose I could have gone with any number other than 4, but 4 just worked for me. Don't ask me why:confused: lol

Good one Daisy errrrr, I mean "Toad" LOL

So you guy's don't have to go back and look........

15 or so years ago my wife and I were out eating at the Red Lobster in Olathe, Kansas with my business partner at the time and his wife. It was crowded as heck on a friday night and they were taking names. In front of me was a group of people in there late twenties. When asked to give his name, the pompus little ass said in a loud tone " Dr Brad Johnson" or something like that so everyone could hear. So when it came to me I loudly stated " Just call me carpenter Tom". That tickled my wife pretty good as she is a nurse and was used to dealing with arrogant doctors. In fact several waiting found it funny too. Doogies wife and companions kinda gave us a dirty look, but hey I made like three of him so what could he do.:) So it has stuck with me every since.
