Worth driving 22hrs.

Thanks for your post reddog, I hope it doesn't get deleted.

Question. Do you know of anytime that a post like that was deleted from this site? You are implying that the mods here have some sort of a vested interest not letting the truth be told. WHY?

I don't know of one. But I do hope the thread does not get deleted as I think there is some good information on it.

So far I have been called an orifice and told to get out of my mothers basement and get some fresh air (too bad she died 3 years ago:(). Safari has been called out by numerous posters on numerous threads for stating his opinion.

Maybe for the reasons I just stated the thread may be deleted? I don't know?

Can't we all just get along. Crap, now I sound like a democrat. Someone put me down, thanks

The reason Safari get's called out is because he adds nothing but negativity to this site. He just want's to be the one that say's " told you so". No shit sherlock. Everybody that hunts could figure out lower CRP + more crops + epic drought = lower bird numbers. I don't personally think what you write is the same. At least you seem to have some passion and regret that it is happening. He seems to get some sick joy out of being Captain Obvious:D

Thank you carptom1. I do love pheasant hunting!(wild birds) With a passion! Last month I stepped in it, and posted some things that I regret and wish I would not have posted. I am still going to post what I think is the truth, and I am still going to be blunt, but my goal is not to personally call people out. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.....even if its wrong:D

I talked to a landowner east of Pierre about bird numbers and crop conditions this morning. He said they are starting to combine corn some now. When they were combining Millet they were flushing many small birds that could barely fly. At least they didn't get any snow, but they did get 3or 4 inches of rain. That will push harvest back a week or so. He also said he is hearing quite a few roosters while he is in his bow stand in the early am and evening. He said the cover is tremendous and it is hard to tell, but he thinks it will be good. This guy has no reason to lie, as he knows I am coming either way.

Went out to your same area on the 26th stayed until last Thurs. I was at that location we talked about south of your a little--excellent cover and habitat--birds all over sat out side in evening and early mornings heard and saw lots of birds--

as some have said though a lot of young birds i saw were just barley showing any color --very young--

by the way I won't be at that location anymore when you make it out--some other time--dc

Just a little eye candy for those chomping at the bit to get there.. Its extremely pretty right now...

Ditto. Great pics as always Reddog. T minus 14 days for this guy to head to SD for the first time ever. Can't wait!

I'm struggling with this one too. I keep reminding myself it's not about shooting limits its about quality time with friends and family. The same group has been hunting together for over 40 years and we're now in 3rd generation. I've already set my expectation that limits won't be shot but we'll have fun anyway.
I can go to a local game farm and shoot 21 birds for $ 180 bucks and spend only 1:30 driving there.

What is that game farm called?

Good job with the pics.
Thanks for posting.

I'll be heading into pheasant country Fri. :)
I'm bringing the camera.

Grouse hunted Pierre area last 4 days and could have limited every day on pheasants. Saw more in last 4 days than all summer. Bean harvest going wide open and some corn coming out may be reason. Not as many birds as last season, but seems central SD has more birds than elsewhere I've been.
