Worth driving 22hrs.

Only about 20-30% crops harvested from what I've seen. Had 4 inches of rain in last 3 days. More delays in harvest. Good weather forecast for opener though. High's around 50. New pup got up 5 hens in 30 minute run this morning before rain started again.

Cookie cutter response by the state. Pheasant hunting opportunities are not even close to what they were in 97 in the vast majority of SD!!. Living in Pierre it seems like very little hype compared to years past. With the rain for last two weeks very little fall crops have been taken out in central SD. Also your going to have a really hard time getting anywhere that is off a gravel road. It soft and muddy everywhere. You can't sugar coat it, birds # are way, way down.

Sounds like a man telling the truth.

Uguide.....of course your going to keep saying there good bird numbers on your properties.......your business depends on hunters traveling to your camps and spending their money there.

Start posting some pics and videos of these birds and also back it up with proof that they are not pen raised and recently liberated.

Your making me sick:mad:

I will do that when anybody else here making a claim of birds being up or down does what you ask.

The people that are sick are the ones that decided to stay home and stay on the couch.

Start posting some pics and videos.....get real.

Strong stuff demanding proof:rolleyes:--this is just a pheasant forum-- if you think it's all a scam then by all means stay home--don't come to SD-- on Saturday we will all know how it is, good or bad---one thing is for sure, I'll be in the field just enjoying being there and all the birds I'll see are wild even if you doubt it. Just another thought--lying to customers--repeat ones or new ones would just be bad business--not something U-Guide would do.

It's really simple---build it and they will come--good habitat equals more birds and Chris's camps provide that--just look at the pictures--and he also does not apply as much hunter pressure as most. It all equals a quality hunt and judging by the repeat business and early booking I would say U-Guide camps provide quality hunting at a reasonable price.

Just so you know--I've never hunted at a U-Guide camp nor have I ever met Chris--I just live in the general area of his own land and understand what good quality habitat will do. Lighten up--enjoy life

Yeah Highbrass cool it, I can vouch that the birds on u-guides are not pen raised chickens, we have hunted his property this will be the 4 or 5 th year in a row. Them birds are wild I know the difference have shot pleanty of pen raised as that is all we have here in northern Indiana.....

So your now accusing u-guide of planting birds? What motivation would he have for lying about it at this point in the season? His hunt's are probably 80% full at this time. All the checks are collected and cashed by now, why would he care. Have you ever checked out his sight right after the season? I have. It is full of repeat bookings right after the season is over. He must do something right. How would he have cash to release a bunch of birds at the prices he charges? By the time he does his split with the landowner, other expenses to run a business, there isn't money left to buy birds. I have never hunted one of his camps, don't need to at this point. But if my situation changes I certainly would do it.

No doubt! UGUIDE has absolutely no incentive for feeding us BS. He's already booked up! After the opener I know he'll share videos of productive hunts. He'll probably tell us where the hunting wasn't so great as well. It only makes sense that his reports would be better than the "neighbor's" in many cases b/c he actually puts effort toward propogating the species. I don't think for a minute he's stretching the truth. If you think he stocks pen-raised birds on his land, you obviously haven't been keeping up with the guy's activities for the past 7 or 8 years like many of us have.

I simply cannot wait until the day I put my deposit down on one of his camps and I WILL get it done in the next couple years. BTW, he doesn't owe anyone any videos to back his claims. As stated above, he'll be sharing videos of happy hunters and multiple bird flushes after the opener, regardless of how little success others might have on properties that aren't managed by him or someone like him.

Outside of safari spouting the end of the World for the last 4 years I don't recall so many mean spirited posts on this forum or the last one. The guys that keep slamming Ugiude don't know what they are talking about. I have hunted a couple of his properties for the last 5years and I can tell you that the info he gave me prior to the hunt was right on. One year he said it was going to be tough and it was. Any other year he said it be pretty good and it was. So all you guys that post this negative crap about people you don't know you can kiss my country@$!#.

The carrying capacity of hunters in South Dakota will surely change. I was killing birds in SoDak before CRP, but far fewer NRs visited SD then. Hunted mainly private land, but we would visit a WPA or GMA and often were the only people to hit that place that day, maybe that past week.

UGUIDE why the fear ? If your farms keep the CRP and farm for pheasants than running consecutive groups opener to close should not be a problem. If people have a good time, kill enough birds to deem it a success they will surely come back year after year. In fact, would you business only improve if the situation around you becomes more bleak?

Just like an oil boom town, there will certainly be fall out.

Implement dealers, chemical and seed sales will offer then another avenue for income.

I think first hand experience is necessary before you grind the axe....just common sense....don't see where you have a dog in this fight either?:confused:

Made final grouse hunt today before phez opener. No grouse, but ran dogs on WIHA that was mostly cut corn on both sides and a weed field of tumbleweeds/kochia about 300 yards wide. Me and a buddy and 3 dogs ran about 45 minutes. We probably got up about 300-400 pheasants. My buddy said that was the most birds he had ever seen on a public area. One of the best I've ever seen too. Only worked one end and left hoping not to mess up hunting for whoever goes there tomorrow. Somebody's gonna have a great opener.

Well I just got back from the Winner SD area after a week of hunting every day from 10am till roughly 6pm and believe me all the hype about numbers being down, at least in this area are entirely true. We hunted 4 days on a private farm and 1 day on public land. We had two dogs and two guys, our daily average of flushing birds was about 40 birds a day 15 roosters the rest hens. We killed 4 roosters and had 1 cripple we did not retrieve. We should have killed maybe 4 more birds, but missed. We had a great time with very nice people, saw some very nice scenery that I don't see here in N E Pa, but the numbers are down, way down in this area. The hunting license went up and the birds went down. I hope the birds rebound, that's up to mother nature.

To answer my original question, it was not worth driving 22hrs to hunt pheasants this year.
