What about Grouse hunters? Have you seen the cover they hunt in? Is that "Hard Core"?
Being from MI, I grouse hunt more than pheasant hunt. I sure love pheasant hunting simply because you're usually going to see and have a chance to shoot at the bird you flush! :D

Hardcore IMO is how much you're willing to put up with to keep hunting. I'm willing to keep going through rain/snow/wind rather than wait in a truck or sit in a hotel. I'll keep walking even if I can't feel my feet and it hurts to move with every step. The people I typically hunt with though aren't as "hardcore".

But with regards to time in the field I'm not a hardcore upland hunter IMO since I try to strike a balance between grouse/pheasant/deer/waterfowl. IMO someone hardcore at upland hunting simply hunts as much as they can, as often as they can, for as long as they can, and does so far beyond what everyone else typically does.

the answer is simple really....Hardcore is all day chukar hunting in the snow and ice in january.....Snow,ice,cliffs,shale,frozen water bottles, etc etc....or are we just talking about stupid...hmm...i sometimes can't figure out where the line is.

I do know that i was pissed when 1hr into my hunt the camelback hose froze and split.

When I hear "hardcore", "whack'em and stack'em", "cut'em, "kill'em", either in print or verbally, it gives me a chill. Best example I can think of is Jeff Foiles, now with an inmate number, running around shooting park geese in the middle of the night with a pellet gun to increase his neck band count. Certainly the hero to the crowd of new "hardcore", which means no limits. Hardcore, used to be guys who never missed a hunt, in all weather, and all season, irregardless of success or competing holiday parties, hot dates, scheduled surgeries, etc. I was one of those guys, when I was under 35!

ditto. I remember letting my wife know that i needed to stop at walmart to get some steel shot because my buddy had called and told me the greenheads were down and he invited me to hunt in the morning. Problem was we were out for our first anniversary between dinner and the movie. As hard as she tried to not make a big deal out of it, it was. Problem was i got up at 3 am the next morning and hunted anyway. Amazing that the marriage before her only lasted 3 years. Even more amazing that this one is nearing 18!

Call me Crazy, but I think someone that's a hardcore hunter is someone that enjoys every aspect of hunting, teaching others, and also conservation so the next generations can continue to hunt as well.

Right on you got it, I could not agree more.:10sign:

I must not be very hardcore. I really like my cabelas chaps and vest.

Hardcore to me is thinking/dreaming about hunting 24/7.

I looked up the definition of "Hardcore" on the internet and while there are many different definitions listed I think the following one stuck out to me.

Hardcore: Having an extreme dedication to a certain activity; diehard.

This is an easy one. It's the guy who has binoculars worth more than his pickup truck!
