what would u do?

david0311

just curious mnajspringer u would of left that spot with 4 vehicles when the 1 vehicle with 2 rude late comers arrived??? you are a nice guy... common sence says 1st guys there get to hunt it in my book???

dont have that this issue on pay to play that 4 sure... i saved about 750$-1,500$ buy hunting public land ill deal with this issue to save that change... id rather hunt with them guys i guess. .

Well then let it go--deal with it--

The most common problem I ever get is mystery blockers setting up at the end of the field we are hunting. Whenever we see them, we just call the dogs and turn in a different direction. I don't need random strangers to block the end of the field for me, thanks. It used to make me furious, but I've noticed they are generally out of state hunters, and I give them the benefit of the doubt that wherever they are from it must be a common practice... 20 years ago I might have given them an ear full, but now I just shake my head and hunt in a different direction.

Once they realize their "free birds" plan is not going to work out, they get back in the truck and move along...

What I would do:

If I pulled up and saw 4 trucks I'd go to my next spot. I always have 3 or 4 in mind and I'm usually willing to go places others won't (swamps, cats, and sedge grass)

If a vehicle pulled up and were jerks, I'd hunt with my party. Keep an eye on the strangers. Hopefully bag some birds and enjoy the great outdoors.

But I wouldn't let someone else ruin my week.

Unfortunately stuff like this happens. Personally, I refuse to let random jerks ruin my day & it isn't worth arguing with folks when enjoying the outdoors in any venue. I typically fish & hunt during the week around here & go elsewhere if necessary. I have always heeded the old adage: "Never wrestle with a pig. The pig likes it and you'll just get dirty." I recreate in the outdoors to enjoy myself, not to become frustrated or pissed-off. When someone beats me to a spot, I go elsewhere.

i did same thing mnajspringer... i always have plan a b c also... that guy did not...

im not crying guys & the hunt did not wreck my day any way shape or form i was more pissed at the smart as comment when i asked are we all gonna fight over this lil spot & he said yeah so i was not gonna join a smart assed group who came late...

i shot birds my party had action & as far as i know them guys did not bag any birds i kinda ended up cut n em of 1-2 times i was gonna change my plans 4 that guy..

again not crying guys just hope some rude guy like mentioned above reads this & thinks twice b4 he craps on somebodys spot who is there waiting hours prior...

it happens yearly turkey hunting with me pull up to a area hear a bird gobble i go after it only to have a 2nd yahoo pull up &go after same bird gobbling they can see others are hunting but come in ontop of u making for a real dangerous situation its like they dont understand we both are hunting same bird this mite be dangerous why park by me to chase same turkey u know we are gonna have a run in just not safe or smart hunting...

Public or private I have dealt with inconsiderate hunters. It is part of the game and seems to be a growing part of the game. I have a tough time letting it roll of me but as some have suggested, why let it ruin your hunt. You got birds and they did not. It is not worth wasting any more of your energy on. Life is too short.

Had a day like that. Ended when the dogs pointed a skunk and 2 of them and I all got the green and yellow blast! I raised the white flag and headed for the soap and peroxide! And still, there are days I prefer the skunks!

It makes me realize how spoiled I am. I have never hunted public land. It seems to me that hunting private where you can have the place to yourselves, walk out the door and go hunting no driving all over the place to find a place to hunt is a practical alternative. Full disclosure I am in the business but reading these posts reinforces my belief that I am doing a good thing.

I can honestly say I've never had this kind of bad experience. I've had guys drive up late, introduce themselves and ask my plan and plan their walks accordingly and I've done the same. I've gotten tips from others and I've given tips. I even helped a father get his young daughter her first rooster by setting them up on the end of a field that always seemed to have a rooster flush out the end as soon as we started walking it. I've inadvertently snuck up on guys duck hunting, given them the apology wave and turned and got out of their way. Hunting out here has been a pleasant experience every time.

This seems to happen to me about once a year. Funny thing is not once in that situation has it worked for the "freelance blocker"

Moral of the story:

Stay away from public land on opener..... same thing with fishing! Opener is for the crazies. wait a week and everything calms down and the real hunters come out.

People are over hyped to shoot and kill on opener........ not a good combo.

If you're lucky enough to have some private land to hunt, that's when I would hunt that. No public on opener for me! An I only hunt public.

Thank goodness nothing bad happened and you still had a good hunt. I cant wait until Nov.1st when I'm hunting SD. I have a son down at SMSU in Marshall and hope to visit and hunt with him before then., just not until MN calms down some.

There's too many of these idiots out there. All they know is conflict. Can't figure their way out of a wet paper sack. They always show up for opening day.
I used to live right in the middle of it. I wouldn't hunt opening day.
Those guys are trainers. Trainers for the birds. So they're tougher to really hunt. They're never very successful.
Don't let them bother you. They're just fodder for destruction.

I have never had an issue. If I am there first, people normally just wave and move on. If someone is there already, I do the same. I have stopped and talked to hunters to see their plans. A lot of these areas are large and I have developed plans with strangers that let everyone hunt without even seeing the other group. I try to approach each meeting with an open mind.

When we had wild pheasants in NY. DEC had landowner cooperative areas where they posted designated parking areas along the shoulder of the road it would say how many cars could park there. If it said one car you had to park your car directly in front of the sign and if it said two cars the second car had to be directly behind the first one. If anyone parked in front of or behind the designated number of cars or any were else on the road they would get a ticket and or be towed. Really solved the problem fighting over hunting spots.
