a guys just curious on what ur feelings are on this incident i had on opener ...

if u had 2 guys 1 vehicle 1 run away lab & pulled up to a public field at 8:20 u can shoot at 9:00 & there is 4 vehicles there 8 guys parking lot full already what is ur next move? there is 3-5 chunks of public with in 5 mile or less... the 4 vehicles were there since 7:20-7:30

had this happen on sat... walked over to the car said good morning & are we all gonna fight over this 1 spot this morning??? 1 guy shook his head yes then said yup looks that way older guy said what the F do u want me to do we have a plan... then proceded to say we walked all over this wma yesterday & are u telling me to leave? i said nope not telling u to leave just saying theres alot of public land around we been here since 7:30 why fight over same fields spots etc. he rambled on while get a vest on so i said ok i see how it going to be & got my vest on etc.

typical opening day stuff... i figured if he was there all day like he said he was fri he was the guy who left cig buts & rappers on parking spot + the 2 piles & TP by the closest trees to parking spot had to watch dogs so they didnt find his outhouse...

i figured man these either have no plan B on opener or are just a holes so our 4 vehicles stayed got birds had a good hunt... im serious when i say i would not could not pull up to a group of 4 trucks 6 guys & be like i have a plan guys im hunting here any way i just woulds drove to next public land chunk & dug in there??? rude guys man...

Are you the guy that was already there or the guy who popped in when there was already other hunters waiting to hunt that field?

And the next three vehicles were with you yes? The other gentlemen your talking about showed up later and wanted to hunt the same field?

If that's the case, I've been in those situations before. I usually ask if they'd like to join in on the hunt. Obviously I'd keep an eye on him for a bit to make sure he's safe, probably introduce the dogs before the hunt to make sure they get along. Other than that, no problems.

Come hunt opener in SD this weekend. I would guess it happens at most public lands that would actually hold birds. We show up at least by 9 and shooting time is noon. Every year someone pulls in 20 minutes to shooting time and think they own the joint. They're usually the slob that doesn't know what they're doing anyhow. Crappy dog and make one pass and go home. Then I say good riddance and bag my birds.

that pretty much happened.. my uncles & cousin talked to the guys after there yes we wanna fight over field comments & and what the F u want me to do comments... i choose not to talk any longer to the guy he was rude if u ask me...

our plan to hunt the field was to split into 2 groups & meet at a certain spot on wma ... my uncles & cousin were going to do his same walk i guess & he walked in same direction but 20-40 yards ahead of group chase n his lab... my group of 4 got into birds 15 min into walk the outhouse guy no shots fired my uncles & cousin walking in same direction as the guy let him & younger rude guy walk there own way after his lab ran wild 80+ yards ahead busting hens ... i seen the guy take about a 65+ yard shot on a bird i could not tell what it was his dog was not a issue as much as the guy...

if i was a big group line up walk type guy i would join im but 2-4 guys & 2-4 dogs can work better then all 8 working in a march...

would u do what the outhouse guy did 1pheas4??? i dont wanna crap on anybodys parade so im part of the if somebody is parked there keep driving group of hunters... like that guy kinda said i got plans also & randomly joining strangers hunting party is not my plan i guess...

LOl.....Sorry Munstie, I'm not sure what you mean? You are you asking if I'd pull up late like him? No. That's not my style.

I've been lucky. There's only been one time when there was an small issue, and that was with a guy who pulled up late like that. I asked if he'd like to join us. "Sure". A couple hundred yards into the field he had to stop to catch his breath. The individual was a tiny bit over weight:rolleyes: and very much out of shape. No big deal. We worked with him. It all worked out. As we waited for him to catch his breath a rooster went up just behind him. He called "hen" on it though:confused: so that rooster went into my bag.:D

Yeah, well, if you bump into a jerk what can you do? I suppose you do what you can to keep the peace and go from there. Each situation comes with it's own circumstances.

I responded to your PM. I have to get back to work here. lol I'll talk to you later.

Quick edit here. I was just thinking back and I did have a issue years ago with a group here in IL. I pulled in good and early to a cattail slough. A group rolled in with 3 trucks 10 minutes before shooting hours. Legal shooting time hit, they stopped talking to me, walked by me without looking or saying a thing and preceded on their way into the cattails with their dogs. It was as if I wasn't even there. I remember watching them for a few minutes shocked. They looked back at me a couple times from the cattails (knowing what they did wasn't right). Anyway, I was there with my dog ready to hunt so I just hit the corn stubble.

Those hunters ended up pushing the birds into the corn stubble. I shot my limit and left. They didn't fire as single shot the whole time I was there. As I was pulling out, I saw them heading to the corn stubble. lol

Try this on for size.

We were walking a quarter section of Kansas Walk-In in Edwards County. We had arrived first and were working along the road to the south. The road was bordered by a treeline (not just a hedge row) which had a finger of trees jutting out about halfway down.

Our group of 6 just happened to break a large covey of quail and we bagged a rooster too. Right as this little flurry happened, a convoy of trucks passed us. They continued down about 2/3rds of the way when they stopped. They jumped out of their trucks, about 10 guys, crashed through the treeline, spread out and started COMING TOWARDS US! I was praying a bird wasn't going to break or someone was going to die. When they got close, they kind of swung out from us and I started yelling about how dangerous it was.

We realized our hunt had just been ruined so we decided to walk back on the road. These guys were all from Arkansas except for the one guy waiting in the truck with Kansas plates acting as a guide. I was so mad I could chew rocks and spit sand at the lack of respect and the overall idiocy of poor ethics. I chewed the guy from Kansas up one side and down the other to which he had absolutely no response because he knew he was in the wrong. I thought I had got myself under control as we walked away, but no, I went back to yell at him some more. My two buddies finally had to drag me away because I was so furious. All the Kansas guy could do was nod while I verbally berated him.

It's first come first serve. Thankfully, we don't fight those WIHA battles much anymore.

Several years ago we had a guy tell us the other vehicles that were already there at other parking areas around the game production area were his friends and he was going to hunt right where were. Little did he know we knew two of the other vehicles. Boy was he surprised when we told him that. Turns out he had no idea who the other vehicles were and was just trying to run us off. Even though we were there an hour before him.

opening day has always been a good one to stay home.....why fight over one spot? i would invite them as well, or have them come in on your flank and meet in the middle.

Opening day SD is totally like that as Big Rand mentioned. Our first time to SD on opening day and we got up super early and scouted lots of walk ins and GPA's. Decided on a spot around 9 and waited till noon. 10 minutes before shooting time, here come three locals. Three generation family with the kid being 12 or so. We had a long discussion with the father and grandfather. The kid had the most sense out of them all. Felt sorry for him really.

The next year, we arrived at our spot on the hill overlooking a food plot in the middle of a baled field. Only plot out there. 30 minutes before and some yahoo's from Minnesota show up and try to snake the spot. We got out 5 minutes before them and started heading across the field. My cousin (the biggest of us) walked right up past them and they started some shit that he was going to finish. They cussed us and couldn't believe we cut them off. We were like we couldn't believe you had intentions of hunting this plot that we had been sitting on for 3 hours. They thought better of it and moved along come shooting time.

There truly are some real jacklegs out there with zero etiquette. I look forward to jungle in 4 days time, lol.

I am generally pretty easy to get along with. I grew up Mennonite, we are not usually known for our aggressiveness. However if that situation played out in front of me those individuals would have had a long walk to town. Then they better hope someone in town had 4 Valve stems for sale.

Crap happens. Just move on.

I only take issue if the safety of Hunters (2 and 4 legged alike) in my party are endangered.

just curious mnajspringer u would of left that spot with 4 vehicles when the 1 vehicle with 2 rude late comers arrived??? you are a nice guy... common sence says 1st guys there get to hunt it in my book???

dont have that this issue on pay to play that 4 sure... i saved about 750$-1,500$ buy hunting public land ill deal with this issue to save that change... id rather hunt with them guys i guess. .
