UPH Pheasant Hunt

Wouldn't it be cool if we could put together a pheasant hunt with some of the UPH members? Maybe it's something that be done by state. I realize there are some logistics that would need to be addressed and I suppose the big issue would be finding enough land to hunt on. Anyone else out there have any interest in doing something like this? How about it, WebGuy?

Or maybe each state could do some type of charity hunt at a preserve. We could then give the proceeds to our favorite conservation organization, perhaps PF. Just an idea.

I've always wanted to meet and hunt with some of the folks from the forum. Chad has a great idea and I would certainly be happy to help if this turns into something. Recently I've volunteered with the CDOW and I know that they are always looking for ways to get more kids out in the fields...perhaps a kids hunt as well.

My original post was to possibly get some of the members together for a hunt and an oppportunity to meet one another. I don't feel that to start out with we should try to do any more than just that.

The ideas of a charity or kids hunt are great, but maybe that's something we can work on in the future.

But look, I'm open to anything. And like I said, we will probably have to do this by state or geographical area. Maybe let each group set their own guidelines.

Bottm line: I'd just like to meet some of you fellow pheasant hunters. And what better way than over a hunt, a meal and a little social hour. :)

sounds like a good time in each state, but i might be hunting alone here in Indiana. if someone makes this happen somewhere close count me in. if not anyone close to IN. send me a pm.

WOW! Looks like we have some interest. Don't know if we can make it a reality or not, but it's worth thinking about. Obviously it will take someone from each state to head up a get together. Then we have the issues like: when and where. We will need land to hunt. And there will probably have to be some kind of limit as to the number of hunters because as we get more hunters we need more land. Maybe Uguide would be able to donate/arrange some land in South Dakota for a one day hunt???? :)

Lots of hurdles to overcome in putting something like this together. But lets continue to talk.

I like this! Can someone coordinate with QF/PF? Great publicity to worthwhile cause!

I like the idea as well. I would suggest hunting public land, the hunting isn't as good but that's not really what the get together is about. my .02

I could probably be talked into letting some fellow hunters share in some of the land that I hunt. Last year's winter wheat should be in milo stubble this year so it should make up for some great hunting. :D I'm sure that we could get some more KS hunters to chime in as well..

There will need to be some coordination between the hunting parties in regards to the hunting dogs ie, flushers hunting with flushers and pointers hunting with pointers

You know, while I think my idea was a good one I'm not so sure it's workable. Maybe it would be better to just try to informally get together with some of the guys in your area. I know I've already talked to Uncle Buck and also cnggack about meeting them for a hunt this fall.

I forget that some guys with pointers don't want to hunt their dogs with flushers and visa versa. Doesn't bother me as I hunt my Brittanys with flusher all the time. But others don't like that. I had one guy from another site with Brittanys that wanted to hunt with me until he found out that one of my Brittanys wouldn't honor point. A little picky I thought but each to their own.

To your point DakotaZeb, I think we all want to fellowship at some level and share our experiences in the field. But maybe the diversity of pheasant hunting stles and preferences is underestimated when it comes down to it. this is probably why I and a few other guides I have work with will never mix groups or become a match maker. As tempting as it is there are just so many idiosyncracies around the sport. Tis is porbably also why I get so many requests from guys that want to just hunt in groups of 2 or 1 even. Probably why I enjoyed hunting solo in IA for so many years. The bigger the group the more decision points and so on and so on and so on.....

You would almost need a matching system to line up all the potential requirements that groups and hunters can have around their desired experience. Don't get me wrong, I think it can be done it's just a little harder and takes more time than one would think it should.

UGUIDE, you are spot on. I too personally prefer to hunt solo or with a small group of 2-3. Trying to get a large group of members together with different hunting styles and different dogs might end up being quite a challenge. Maybe it's not possible.

But if there is a member in South Dakota that would like to get together for a hunt let me know. I'm up for it. I also purchase a Minnesota license and hunt SW Minnesota a couple time a years and would be up for meeting any of you MN boys (or gals) sometime. I'm originally from MN.
