Some old school and some new school

Do you have some things you use each year that are sentimental or just plain a tradition that's old school gear/gun and then some new school, new fangled, high tech stuff?

What of your gear is new school neat high tech and what do you consider your old school must have gear from yester year?

Old school.....most likely one of my various 20ga or 16ga guns built 20 to over a 100 years ago.(1960 A5 Sweet Sixteen or my Custom Shop Superposed 20ga Browning's among my favorites)

New School...My Irish Setter, Gor-Tex kangaroo leather boots and training collar for the dogs.

What's old and what's new in your pheasant battle gear?

Old school....classic Knotsmith whistle lanyard.
Would not leave the truck w/o it. Whether I use the whistle or not...the lanyard is a special totem and I would feel undressed w/o it..well, almost.

New school...Astro.
Effective simplicity and peace of mind combined.

Actually, I'd add a Sweet 16 as well to the old and classic side of the ledger....oh, and a pair of suspenders.
Never hunt w/o suspenders.
And a good briar pipe....pot shape.
Odd...I'm finding more old than new.

onpoint, do you have the Irish Setter Upland Kangaroo that is the pull-on/side zip? How are they working out? I've always been afraid of a pull-on for hunting as I feel the need to be able to lace them and adjuct accordingly. I've been looking at the Upland DSS and have found out they are coming out with a new boot this summer called the Upland Havoc. Go to their web site and search "Upland Havoc". It's an all leather boot that looks really nice.

About the only "old school" thing I use is my 1960 Sweet Sixteen. Everything else is pretty much "new school" including guns and gear. All the old stuff wore out years ago. :) Guess I do have an orange Pendleton wool parka (bought in the 80's) that I use for elk hunting or pheasant when it's extremely cold. Oh, and I do have some knives that go back to the 50's and 70's.

Mine are the model #850 lace up, 400 gram Thinsulate. They are about 3-4 years old now. Been tough as nails.http://www.overstock.com/Clothing-S...wn-Sunset-Kangaroo-Boots/4434800/product.html

I wanted the green Browning Kangaroo upland non insulated boots so bad. I believe they are discontinued. That's my luck.

Thanks for the link. I'll check them out.

Apparently the Wingshooter GTX 850's have been discontinued for some time. Not listed on the Irish Setter web site.

Old school would be my Beretta A302 and Beretta BL-3 guns, hunting truck, and about everything else. New school...???? Nothing that I can think of.

Old School
Remington Model 11-48 16GAU Modified 30” Barrel. Purchased new in 1949 and has been passed down and used for three generations.

New School
Tough Book Laptop with wireless network, GPS and Mapping Software allows for marking, storing hunting spots and notes, allows planning and easy navigation while hunting alone.

Guns, dog, clothing, collars are all pretty much new school, tho on occasion I do take my Dad's old Stevens 12 SxS out. So . . . reckon the only every-trip old school thing is . . . me!

New school would be the camelback hydration packs. Great idea long time overdue. The rest of my gear except the kids and dogs, is vintage. I now refuse to shoot guns younger than I am!

I think I would get along hunting with you just fine. I've been lusting over a Knotsmith for a couple years now. Sure wish I would have gotten one before the price jumped up.

Old school - marbles compass, stromy kromer hat, Grulla SXS.

New school - astro.

That's interesting, GSP....I failed to mention my partridge plaid Stormy Kromer.
The only cap that stays nailed to the egg in a high wind, for me.
So...I bought two.:)

Only two?

They're standard issue around our house.

old school is my jones style hat, carhats and my win. md. 37 steelbilt .410. New is my S&W sxs shotgun and s&w knife set and all the new friends I plan on meeting and getting through this site.

Old school item
Last year I bought a nice oilcloth blackwatch tartan jacket. This oilcloth works nearly as well as goretex in rain and has been around for 100s of years.

MM,

Do you play bagpipes? :10sign::cheers:
