Shell Brand

Me too, I've been use remington pheasant not bad, but i was using winchesters but they seem not to have a punch behind them, thats why I started using remington.

I use federal prairie storm steel. Many public areas are going steel shot only for all game not just waterfowl. I also prefer the environmentally friendly approach and it kills the birds just as dead...trust me.

I would say federal is most popular overall.

In Canada, most common shell that I see afield is are various Federal loads, mostly inexpensive ones from Canadian Tire (big box hardware/household/yard/sports store).
I started with Kent Traditional Upland and then Kent Fastlead but now settled on Winchester Supreme copper-plated lead #4- it's a bit slower (1380 fps?) than the Kent Fastlead, but it really seems to knock them down and the 3" ones put a lot of lead in the air. I am using old stock of the black-box Supreme, which does not seem to be available here anymore. It has been replaced by something called Super-X Pheasant (I bought a box, but likely won't be using it this year).

I use federal. I like the idea of steel instead of lead. I'll have to give it a try.

This year I switched it up. Bought a flat of Kemen Field 36 (basically a 3¾ dram 1¼ oz load with 5% antimony hard shot) $90/flat.

i usually hunt with steel shot only, for environmental sake of it. i seem to have good luck with #4 steel shot on small game. never hunted pheasants but id love to try it one day.

I picked up a box of Nitro Pheasant this year (Number 5's). Have not had a clean kill on a bird all year.

I tried to order a flat of B&P long range in number 5's a few months ago, but they are out for the year.

They do have a sale going on right now for the B&P long range in 7.5 shot size if anyone needs that size. $113 per flat, with free shipping.

No one would ever find one of my B&P's in the field because they all go in my vest after shot.
