Russian hunters!

Well it goes to show you that there are pieces of crap in every society. Unfortunately there are guys like that here too. I refuse to call them hunters.

I guess I am having trouble working up a great deal of outrage. First cappercaillie are a big grouse that is routinely hunted by stalking and rifle where there are any left. Tradition is more along the lines of turkey hunting than upland birds. Obviously when not hunted much, and abundant, they set new standards of stupidity, but we in America and Canada routinely potted spruce grouse and Franklin grouse sitting in trees for camp meat in the rockies with .22's, rocks, slingshots, whatever was handy. Few of us have shot our spring turkey on the wing, and I've seen them display about as much stealth. Personally, I'm jealous! Look at that habitat, cutover, burned by wildfire, mature forest in other areas. Looks like caper heaven, they must be doing something right! Road hunting is what it is, whether legal or not. And in some cases it is legal. Another case of enforcing our personal standard on people half way around the world. As far as the video, I suggest that we could make much the same featuring turkeys. Is it how I hunt? No. But I watch U.S. outdoor shows and I don't "cut 'em", "whack and stack 'em", or yell "kill 'em" everytime I see a mallard with cupped wings. I guess the question is sporting or not, I suppose that depends on your definition. would it make us feel better if they turned off the outboard, or shut off the car engine before they shoot? Looks like they clean and eat what the kill, that alone might put them a step up the ladder from some of the pheasant brethern who breast their birds an trash the rest either on the roadside or motel trash bin.

Yea I think it would make me feel better if they weren't chasing and shooting at a bird traveling at the same speed down a river. Although you do make a good point about them consuming what they eat. Plenty of hunters here could use that lesson.

People need to understand, cultures in other parts of the world do things differently. They don't have the hunting pressure we have in the U.S. In Canada they can shoot their daily limit of any species of ducks, be it Canvasbacks, Greater scalp(8 a day I believe), whatever and here in the U.S. we can only have 1-2 a day in most locations. I enjoyed watching the film and seeing Russian hunters and the countryside. I'm not going to call them a piece of crap. That's wrong and folks just need to understand there's different ways of doing things. They would most likely not approve of all our restrictions. A person has to wonder, who has the most freedom's anymore, not us here by the looks of it.

You just took the words out of my month Onpoint.

Regardless of culture, running animals down by motorboat is wrong. Just because something is accepted or tolerated in another culture makes it no more right. We could start another entire thread on that alone.

Well, us Americans running around the world implementing our beliefs onto others, is what IMO is driving the dislike for us all over the world. Right & Wrong come in many flavors. Subsistence hunting and sport hunting are two different animals. If you seen they were canning things in those jars. They are going to depend on the things they harvest and gather to get them though the winter. There's no Wal-Mart just down the road for these folks.

Can't believe anybody here in America would be concerned how people hunt birds in Russia. Maybe they need the meat,or maybe they sell them for there only income.

Big birds, and some big perch if they were same perch we have.

I don't disagree that our interest in becoming world police has caused most of the dislike for us worldwide. I do think that the issues are being confused for me on this. My problem is the manner in which the game was taken, and really from the boat only. Shooting from a car window is nothing new to us in the United States. I understand that this appears to be substinence hunting, but I still don't have to be a fan do I? To make any assumptions on these guys ability to purchase food or anything else from based only on this video would be hard for me. Hell the boat they were using looks as nice as mine. Ps. I don't care much for Wal-mart either

I wonder if the bear marks were exciting or scary? That little rifle that they were shooting at capers, and missing alot, wasn't much bear medicine. I wonder how long it will take those capers to wise up? Some parts of europe they are legendary for being cagey, but that's what I grew up thinking of turkeys until we had one under every bush.

man is he given 'er hell at the 4:30 mark in that car!! :D:D

I only made it to that mark but if thats as bad as it gets..Im ok with everything they did. What do you want them to do? Abide by the South Dakota rules and regs?? Theyre in Russia for crying out loud.(I assume).

shooting the flying carp would sure be a hoot!:D

I don't suppose it is legal but I think it would help the problem. I believe I could sell a hunt like that. I am not sure how you would want to arm your self. Short barrel, and the widest choke you could get. I suppose it would be steel shot. I bet those boys in the video would eat them too.

After all, it is quite it to the same, how Russkies hunted in!
As a rule, the Russians are using motor vehicles to all hunting!
Unfortunately, they are very indifferent to the people, for example, towards the natural world is something which already sees photographs kuolna Peninsula!

Permitted by law or not, but I do not see it desirable. Especially when all the hunters to the criticism from environmentalists. And, at least not this like a cure for this video.
And certainly not produce motor assisted hunting is all over the world, so also here in Finland, even though it is prohibited by law!

But at least the video for myself like hunting is ethically wrong!
I think that all game should be given the opportunity to save their lives.
No one hunter in western culture is no longer present on the live bird meat!
For me, hunting is just a hobby with an emphasis on good working dogs, training them and watching, hiking and enjoying the scenery! I can pretty well left to shoot, but if the dog is working properly, of course, I'm trying to reward a job well done.

For example, Finnish capercaillie hunt we use pointing dogs or a barking dogs, or just by stalking.
And the hunting certainly not need a motor vehicle!

Motor vehicle use for hunting shows just laziness, stupidity and ignorance!
In fact, I can call this kind of hunting activity, it is a pure killing.
In which the does not not have any kind of a challenge!
And I will always contempt for these people, and I really do not like them to hunters in the true sense!
Video was the only indication of how many kinds of hunters in this world can hold!
Still:mad:

I didn't watch the killing so....
One finds this often from what sounds like hooting slaughter in a field, lines of folks shooting driven pen-raised birds to the baiting of ducks in at 9:22 to waiting and panting blinds in South America.
You either would participate, or not.
However, as Americans, or any hunter, may not want to come down on another's choice too hard it is also true that will all are judged more and more by the least defensable actions of a small portion of us.
Making a comment, as the OP did, is easily as defensable and ok as many in believing an outboard is acceptable on a duck chase.

Personally, Nugent's antics, baiting and beyond, make me ashamed and embarrassed as does pheasant hunters on a Preserve whacking pheasants tossed out of a tower in Virginia.
Yet, I would shoot driven red grouse in Scotland but not driven pheasants there...simply, a personal choice.

One reason we hunters(a very, very small and dropping group) have some of the problems with recognition that we do have, is because we have arrived at the Nugent Age of...if it's legal then it is ok..."it's all good, whackbrothers" type of thing.
THE RIGHT to do something trumps all now.....fine and dandy but it will not be a choice that serves well in the long run.
Despite the propaganda tooting it will.
Speaking out on some questionable TV stuff like the run&gun timed trial folks leaping thru fields on a scamper and jerking birds from a dog's mouth is a good thing....as is the mention the OP made.
We need to look closer and make rational decisions....that is not always judging.
"Judging" is often defined by he who feels guilty or is involved....not always the most unbiased of definers.

you make some good points. I think the earlier poster hit it for me when he said that game should have a fair chance to escape. I think it is also important for us to speak out when we find something that we find distasteful. I think we all judge to a certain point. How else do we make competent decisions? Too many times people keep there mouth shut when they should speak up. As far as Nugent goes, although i smoked many a doobie listening to Cat Scratch Fever and Wang Dang Sweet Poon-Tang, i do wish he would go away. He portrays most of us in a bad light.
