Pheasant Camp!

Thanks Brian..same to you! These areas receive released birds but more and more people are seeing holdovers! The habitat is good and getting better up there so it makes for some good quality pheasant hunting! The area around our pheasant camp does have the late season..the original pheasant camp does not have a late season! Good Luck this season!

If you live in North East Pa., heck even if you live in nearby NJ.,and were thinking of doing some upland bird hunting this year, think no longer. There is some good grouse and woodcock hunting, and this year that area is going to receive a HEAVY dose of released pheasants. I have always loved this area of the state and now with the increased pheasant hunting opportunities, well all I can say is thank you PGC!

Pheasant Camp 2012 turned out to be quite an adventure..hunting wild roosters in Pa is a blast but a lot of hard work! Our trip started out on a down note..our two top farms were now being farmed when we arrived and we quickly had to regroup! We arrived Sunday afternoon so we used the rest of the day to check a few other spots and we came up with a couple that we decided we were going to hunt! In the end we had plenty of areas to go to and hunt and we had some action! Dugan did his job flushing 5 roosters and 3 hens! Two were mine but didn't offer a save shot and the other three were Dad's which he missed! Not a great outing shooting wise and when your hunting wild pheasants here in Pa you have to make your opportunities count because your not going get many but I had a great time and to have to opportunity to hunt wild pheasants in Pa is just awesome! I will be sure to post up some pictures!

Nice pictures. That's a lot of cover for a few birds to hide in. I'm sure you and Dugan put some good work in. What kind of sandwich do you make for your dog?:)

You may not know this but I think your dad likes to practice shoot and release for the pheasants, kind of like catch and release for fish.

Thanks for the pictures and good luck the rest of the season.

Thanks Brian! Dugan is definitely a character..whenever we start to put our food together he always sits there and stares down the food letting us know that he wants some too!

The cover was thick and high and there was a lot of it but that's where you got to go for the birds! Good Luck to you too!

Actually one was sausage and the other meatball, Dugan get's a smidgen of each - hey it's Pheasant Camp!

You're right about the shoot -n- release, Mr. Lynn Appleman taught me this practice, and he's a shooting legend in the state of Pa., if this keeps up I think I'll soon surpass him.:D

Our two top farms were actively being farmed,so it was off to the swampy habitat in the area. This is some of the best pheasant habitat I have EVER hunted and that includes the Mid-West! I wish there were more areas in Pa. like it. It's hard hunting these birds in this type of cover, but if I had shot straight I would have gotten a Rooster on Monday and my limit yesterday, not bad for wild pheasants in Pa.! My son also had opportunities, and Dugan was trying to figure out running birds most of both days. It was a great hunt!

Mr FLDBRED, I know Mr. Appelman and he is a great marksman. You should not make fun of someone who obviously has great shooting skills. I know for a fact this morning he was 2 for 2.

Lynn...I mean Roosterslammer, on this hunt we flushed three hens, but on other hunts we have flushed predominately hens.

We've been telling everyone that 2012 was going to be a great small game season, and we certainly are not disappointed. We went to our camp in N.E. P.A.and hunted some Co-OP property. This is an either sex area, however on some of the Co-Op's that have shown to have the potential to hold birds, we only shot males. The owner of one of these properties says he has seen the same rooster for over three years, that's a very old rooster anywhere! On a couple of these Co-Ops we had the place to ourselves. THANK YOU PGC for considering the small game hunter!

Nice pictures Hollow Watcher.

I agree FLDBRED, it is a very good season. This has been my best opening week since getting Nittany and he will be 8 years old next month. I won't be able to get out on a Saturday to hunt for myself for a while. But the dogs will get plenty of action since we'll be guiding for a youth hunt and vet hunt the next two weeks. I may also help with a different youth hunt on the 17th as well. Good luck and stay dry!

You're right! We got hit hard by hurricane Sandy, so we lost a couple of days of hunting, but the good Lord willing we will be back at it shortly.

Well Pheasant Camp sure has been getting a workout this year! It's always been great for deer and grouse, and now with the stocking increase and improving habitat the pheasant hunting is getting better.
I got this guy 3:30 PM opening Day, he was the fifth legal buck I saw Monday.

Very nice! Your camp looks like a nice place to go in the fall.

I was able to get a 5 point yesterday around 11:30 and my friend got a 9 point later in the afternoon. We were in Adams county on private land. I know a 7 point was also taken in the same area during bow season.

I may have to tavel north soon in search of grouse.
