People/family that don't like your dogs

If they come to my house I try to take their feelings in mind. I don't mind crating the dogs for a few hours, but if you are coming for Thanksgiving weekend, sorry you are going to have to pet them. (They are Golden's they think your job is to pet them!) But I also respect other family members and don't bring them along if they are not welcome in someone else's house.

i don't know anyone who doesn't like goldens.

and retrieve to hand, hold bird patiently while i take a picture too.

. . . and be perfectly happy riding in the back and on a diet of dry dog food. :p

. . . she married a non-hunter who claims to be "allergic" to dogs.

Poor thing, allergic to dogs and all. Him even gotta pec*er? <shame on me>

I don't really find people that don't like dogs, or at least they don't admit it.
I also have 2 Golden's so whats a guy supposed to do?? Cant lock them up while people are over.. Give them 30 seconds of your time when you come in the door and they're content...

Right! and then they will leave you alone. Mine will even smile at you if you look close! Now that freaks some people out!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's another thing. If you lock up your dogs or shove them down in the basement every time company comes. They learn to NOT! like people. They feel they are being punished every time stranger come.

Years ago, my mom and dad did just that to a male Black lab we had. He began to get aggressive towards strangers. He learned that when they came. He was punished in his mind.

Dogs are usually a pretty good judge of character. If the dog don't like them, maybe you should evaluate them as well.

Don't like our dogs?

In our house? Complaining about our dogs?

My response is "Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out"!

That's what I told my brother when he started about my gsp.

I will always have dogs. Always have. Don't have many friends that don't have dogs.

I would not have anything to do with an inlaw that did not like my animals, especially if they were mean people. You just don't have to put up with that. They have a basic character flaw and are not right in the head.

I have a dog in the house noone wants to be around but you know theres a reason for that she simply tells you what she thinks of you and is an excellent judge of charecter sure she barks when you pull up thats her job and as far as pissing on tieres my buddy has one that pisses on my tires everytime i show up so i started pissing where he sleeps he has slowed down on the tire rampage my house my rules to hell with them and thats the bottom line

I love this thread. We have an 11 month golden and he is our first dog. I have been shocked to find out how many people DONT LIKE DOGS!! He is a handful but he is still young. But all he wants to do is say hi and gets so excited to meet new people and they get so mad. It has put a damper on the relationship with the in laws, we no longer stay there when we visit because of our new (son). But he is just that, its fine to us, if they don't accept him, then we stay somewhere else. But frustrating when people come over and get mad, we are constantly working with him on his manners and they still get mad. Has caused some little fights and i'm sure more in the future. However now that i've become more of a bird hunter I have met plenty of dog lovers out there hunting. As I said my dog misbehaves still, and never has another hunter complained about it. They just smile and take their dogs on their way usually petting and talking to my boy.

Do any of you have family or friends that don't like your dog?

Do you have people that won't come to your house because their afraid your dog will piss on their tires or possibly jump on their car/truck?

My wife's mother hasn't been to our house in at least 5 years. She despises any animals, specially "Dogs". Her dad isn't much better.

When we first married, I caught her dad being deliberately mean to our dogs. He was twisting their ears just to hear them yelp. Then one time when he was visiting. I told him don't let the dogs outside. I don't want them getting on the road or maybe have them run off. What was the first thing he did when I turned my back. That's right, he opened the door and let them out. I told him, what did I tell you NOT to do. He said, well I think they wanted out. It was only to re-leave him from having to be near them. He said dogs belong outside and sleeping in the barn, NOT IN THE HOUSE.

I have a friend that I have known 40 years, who has become so anal about everything in his life. He won't come here or to anybodies house that has a male dog, because they will piss on his rims.

Do any of you dog owners have family or friends who have issues with your dogs and come over very little or not all because of them?

If I do---- haven't missed them--or cared one bit--dc

One last thread, ok, The sign over my office desk: The more I get to know some people the more i love my dogs!!
:10sign:AMEN TO THAT, BROTHER!!!
Don't go on very many vacations that the dogs aren't welcome either!
Got a friend in Iowa that says I'm welcome to stay at his place to hunt anytime, with one condition...only if I bring my dogs! Friends don't get any better than that!
