My Murry Dog has come up lame in the left knee and a trip to the vet today gave preliminary diagnosis of osteosrcoma(bone cancer). The x-ray was not definitive. Tramadol for pain and re-test in two weeks.

Murry is a seven year old GSP.

Anyone with similar experience?

Keep the faith. Vets do make mistakes. Lets see what the follow up appointment in a few weeks shows.

My heart goes out for you. I lost one of my dogs last year.

But, lets stay positive ya hear.

I have been doing some research on this myself. I’m not sure what the Vet told you, but what I do know, is that the dogs immune system needs to be part of the remedy. Meaning treatments, surgery can help; the dog’s immune system still HAS to be jump started.

Maynard, that is horrible news!! I hope and pray the Vet is wrong!!Too many guys are losing dogs early lately and I pray this is not going to be one of them!!! Keep us posted on the re- visit !!!
 
Sorry to hear about your dog having problems Maynard, regardless of whether diagnosis is 100% yet or not! My lab 'Chance' is still having lingering problems over here too & on long-term meds now, not the same dog he once was - praying it doesn't keep on getting worse & find out some kind of underlying tumor problem as well, I HATE that d@#! "C"-word whether in people or animals! :( :mad:

Up North Michigan Mojo sent over for your Murray dog.

I can add that a DX of OS by x-ray is presumptive only. A positive diagnosis would be made by a biopsy read by a vet pathologist. The lesion might be something else or it could be a bony lesion which is not maligant. Fingers crossed that it is one of those things.

Sorry to hear that news. I hope Murry makes a full recovery. Cancer is leading cause of death in dogs, so I have read.
 
Never know what to say when something like this happens.
We are all hoping for the best for you and the pup..
 
The tragedy of dog ownership is they don't live as long as we do! Lots of possible causes, we'll hold a good thought and hope it's not what is suspected. You were lucky to have that good dog and he's lucky to have you. Good Luck.
 
I had a dog with a big knot on his ribs once. They thought it was cancer at first, but turned out to be hematoma when he got x-rayed after weekend. Hope for the best.

Last week Axel had a bib sore on cheek and I had to drain it about four times and hit it with a little peroxide. This morning Poco was streaking down the trail when she ran over Flirt, my latest pup. She is favoring her left front foot but I see no swelling. Bailey has something I've never seen before, an enlarged pad on rear foot. She tore the pad last winter, and it healed up. now it has swelled up but it does not apper to have fluid in it. She is 11.5 years old. Has anyone seen this before?

Two dogs in heat, a third one bred and due August 25. Nothing but chaos. Mazzie and the pup got on a nice brood of pheasants tho the other night.

Thought I would just checkin to see how Murry is doing. Have not heard from you. Have you taken Murry back to the Vet yet? Hopin all is well
 
There is still a problem. With the pain meds he uses the leg more and has regained some of the muscle mass, but still the leg is smaller than the other. Will continue with the meds at the moment.
