One shotgun, or do you like a change of pace now and then?

Do you have that "one" shotgun that you carry all season for pheasants, or do you have another (or three) that you like to carry for a change of pace?

I vary between several depending on conditions & what I expect, but always either 28 or 20 gauge & usually double-guns (for Doves, same gauges, but primarily semi-autos so I can run out of ammo quicker & get away from the mosquitos sooner . . . ).

i prefer carrying the same gun all the time super black eagle 2:thumbsup:. this year hunting in s.d. with trusty 20 i tried to handicap my self bye switching to my browning pump but i just kept hitting the birds:D.

Depends on the time of season, where I'm hunting, and what dog I have.

I vary from 20 sxs on state land and early private land to singles in 12 and 20 later in the season on private. I don't need to take a bird home every time, and old legs like singles. :)

With a newer dog, like Mick, the ESS, I WANT to have a bird go up and down, so will likely use the sxs to give me an edge in dropping the bird.

But I'm a local hunter. If I traveled and spent $ to hunt, I'd likely use the sxs in either 20 or 12 to increase my chances.

But, hell, I got a bunch of shotguns in single and double, I like them all for various reasons, so...no consistent regular pattern.

Not much help, eh?

I may use 2-3 different guns during the season. Mainly I use either my 16 ga. Citori White Lightning or my Sweet Sixteen. I do get invited on some hunts that I know are going to really be more of a shoot than a hunt and then I might break out my 12 ga. Montefeltro (plug removed).

As with everything, for me it depends. Right now my best pheasant getter is a 12 gauge Beretta OU, but sometimes I just feel like carrying my SxS, or an older 16. On non-tox land I usually shoot steel out of a 12 gauge auto. There have been many years in the past when I used one gun from start to finish, but somehow I've learned to make everything more complicated than it probably needs to be. :)

I think my best season ever for shooting percentage on birds (pheasant & ruffed grouse) was back during those "one gun" years. I had a 12 gauge 870 with a 24" aftermarket Hasting barrel, and that rig was deadly. Of course I was peanut butter & jelly poor at that time, and it had to work. :)

I have been using a benelli M2 20g. for most phez, when i can shoot both ducks and phez i use my Super Vinci, wich i an still learning to shoot but i did get alot of ducks with it this year (missed alot as well)

Change Up

Most often one of the two Winchester Model 12 16 ga. guns I bring. One is a 26 inch Imp. Cyl. The other is a 28 inch Mod. But, I also have a Super Black Eagle for nasty days or when I need non-tox ammo.

Lock and Load! :D

I'm fortunate to have a smorgasbord of favorites. I love to trade guns often through out the day. It's just as much a gun day, as it is a dog day and meat for the table day. FUN!!!! that's what it's all about.I hope I shoot all of them. Then I can spend a afternoon cleaning them and enjoy yet more time spent with my guns..well the dogs lay by my feet.

As of a few weeks ago the new plan will be 6lb 7oz Cynergy Composite Feather 12GA for the lightweight carry plan and thousand mile marches and the 7lb Camo Maxus for fowl weather or if I expect a bunch of shooting. I guess I'm a Browning guy.
POL

opening week when the pheasants ususally hold tighter for my labs, i use a Benelli 20 gauge Monte. After that i go to a Browning superlight, carries like the 20 but more lead "flying" for farther flushes.

I carry my 28ga for the first week or so of pheasant season then my 20 until it closes. Carry only my 28 for quail. I'm kicking around the idea of a SxS English stock .410, don't worry it would only be for quail hunting and preserve birds after all of our seasons close.
