January Gathering

If I could team up with someone from this area I might consider coming down. I've always wanted to come to Kansas in January after the SD season ends. I'll have to see if FCSpringer or Uncle Buck are interested.

Hey, could one of you boys from up north bring some of that amber 'ROOSTER LAGER' for the rest of us to try out??? I will buy one round for everyone on me & reimburse for an extra 6 pack to take home with me back to CO if someone will haul it down. But be careful, don't wanna get orders for a major bootleg-run started up on here & one of you wind up havin to explain to the warden why the entire truckbed is plumb-full of the stuff & covered up in roosters at the end of the day! :D

@Fenway - Oops my bad, never wanna make a wrong call on a man's dog! I was in a hurry & only saw the "might let him run with a flusher part"...Can't pay too much attention to all of the details on every thread - if I wind up spendin much more time on this UPH forum, I ain't gonna have any time left to hunt + all my season passes with the missus will be burnt up long before I ever get a gun in my hand! :p

@Shadow - If the weather's right, I'll sip some coffee or throw back a cold one with ya around the campfire while admiring the sunset out on God's beautiful Golden Prairie, maybe even pop a steak or burger on the grill if you want - but I will be in a warm bed with the pooch's dog-box inside the room come late nite!

@Maynard - Do you know a decent dog-friendly motel in town you can vouch for that ain't too fancy or expensive, but not a dump either??? My kids stayed at a 'Red Roof Inn' with me on a deer hunt one year back when they were teens & to this day they still refer to it as the Red Rash Inn & swear 'never again" - we all chose to sleep in sleeping bags & on the floor - still don't know (or wanna know) what all was in/on those sheets and bedspread! On the other end of the spectrum, my brother-in-law will probably never get over me skinning & processing a deer in the parking lot of a TX Hampton Inn (that's a little too nice for a hunter's needs)...

Count Crusaderhunter in.

I would love to meet you men and walk a few fields. My son and I have two labs & he may join us if he can; his wife is due with our first grandchild in Feb.

if nothing else we will all have enough stories /lies from the season to make a great lunch bs session

If at all possible I am going to try to make it with Gus, my Springer pup.

Maybe ol FC Springer will come down and see how poorly I have trained one of his offspring:rolleyes:

I have an aunt who lives in Dodge that I need to see anyway.....she might just take me and the dog in for the stay!

Dodge City

it is a ways off. depending on the weather mid Jan,me and the dog will be there. PS: hope to be hunting mid Jan around Hugoton:cheers::cheers:

Well weather permitting me and the pooch are in! I put in for the weekend off so it should all work out

Attention hunters and story tellers:

A few of us at UPH have been planning to meet up in Dodge City on January 15, 2011. Before anyone goes off about hunting with strangers and/or 25 guys, I'm letting you know that is NOT our plan.

The idea of this event is to put faces with some of the names that frequent this site regularly and swap tales from what is currently the upcoming season. Warning, this is a hard-core pheasant hunters only gathering:rolleyes:

Anyway, EVERY member of this board is invited. I suspect we'll meet at Central Station for lunch and the infamous MR Byrd can share some of the local history of a town that could easily be considered Kansas' most historic town. I simply can't wait to see the central/mountain zones sun dial.....don't know why, but that's the attraction that interests me most.......I digress.

We're planning a lunch at the least and I expect several of us will return for supper and wassail (yes, that's a word). I will probably stroll into Central station between 11 and 11:30am that morning, with a limit of roosters in the back of my truck:p

Feel free to form your hunting groups before the 15th or at lunch...doesn't matter to me. I'm not even going to try to play matchmaker for this event. If you wanna hunt w/ a group of 10, form it. If you wanna hunt alone after lunch, go for it.

Webguy tells me he's sending a UPH banner which should help everyone find the right table (not that 10 orange hats wouldn't be a good indicator, but I want a banner!). If nothing else it might get someone to ask us who we are and what we're doing.....then they may beg us to come kill some of their pesky pheasants for them:rolleyes: before we leave town.

If anyone has suggestions or concerns, feel free to air them out here. No offense, but if you're not planning on coming, please keep your suggestions under your hat. I ask all of you to keep it simple and there is absolutely no need to get heated over anything pertaining to this meet and greet.

All that having been said, it is now time for those who plan to attend to weigh in with their thoughts/suggestions/questions.

That weekend's open for me and it sounds like a worthwhile trip to make from Texas. I've got a year-old Setter who spent the summer in South Dakota on wild birds that I'd be bringing along. I'll post back here if/when I nail down some plans for certain to be there.

Shawdow I knew I liked you..... Soco and I'm all in. haha

it all sounds great accept the southern comfort to much of a good thing when I was younger and now I have flashbacks whenever I smell it but you can't go wrong with Lord Calvert

haha, I'm a pretty big Rich and Rare guy for the most part.... But Soco has a spot in my heart, or belly anytime! Looks like I might need to look into getting a room in dodge, with talks like this already I might not be going to far that night!

don't get me wrong soco is good but the old belly remembers everything about it and sends messages to the brain that always say NOOO remember the last time

Got to agree with gcb I think the last time I drank soco little turtle was conceived. But dont quite remember details. If I can make it to Dodge I will bring some Jim beam (for medisanal perpuses):)

Still looking good for me to make the trip. WI Ditch Chicken we might have to try and work something out for the drive.
