How many of you let birds go?

I was out hunting last year and some guys were hunting an adjacent field a ways from me. I heard some shooting and watched a bird fly my way from where they were walking . It flew out it front of me and the dog in the general direction we were walking so we went to see if we could find it. The dog caught it mostly alive. Was a rooster. When I left I drove over to where they were parked, they were still in the field so I hollered out that I was going to leave it on there tailgate. They looked dumbfounded and swore up and down that they had killed and picked up every bird that they had shot at in the field..I wondered if it was one of those deals. stray pellet

I’ve seen the birds that fly a hundred yards or more and then sky straight up, and then fall stone dead. I’ve gone out and picked them up and then driven out to the group of hunters that shot it without knowing it was hit. I try to watch “missed” birds for awhile, many fall to the ground or do the sky routine and then fall to the ground.
