Gunne Update

Bob, sorry I am so late on this one. I must be sleeping!!! Sounds like a close one! Hope he heals up nice and has no lasting effects!!!!!

As of today Jim, 2 1/2 weeks in the cast yet them he need some rehab to get use to using that leg again. I could be wrong on the rehab, but I don't know anything about broken legs........Bob

Bob- I don't see bird dogs as needing rehab- us- yes- because we have to get thru that- "it hurts why should I"

you get the cast off him- let him walk arround and read him- he limps- good boy- lets take it easy- if it's healed and not messed up- he'll be fine-

you'll know in 2 min of letting him out to run

Thank you Shadow, I was hoping it would be something like that.......Bob

it'll be ok- might take Gunne to the lake and let him swim- I had a timid female Britt- lost her quail hunting- got a call 2.5 months later while I was in the mountains- she was near dead surviving in the wild- crawled up to a kid getting off a school bus- vet wanted to remove her leg at the shoulder- no way!

4 more years and quite a few trips to the lake- she was 15.2 when her end came- peacefully

Well Gunne got pissed off this evening. Cast or no cast he was running laps from the Living room to the kitchen to the dining area and back into the living room. There is a big fireplace in the center of the connecting rooms. He was really hauling it. I didn't think he could that fast in 3 legs. I let him out side to see if I could get him to slow and calm down. He did the same thing in the yard one end to the other full tilt. Benedryl hell it don't calm him down........Bob

Today Thursday the 23rd, I took Gunne to the vet. His cast was coming off. It kept sliding down it stretched out. He checked the leg real good and said about 2 or more weeks in the cast yet. I told him Gunne running laps he just laughed and agree woth jim, cabin fever. I also told him last night Gunne was walking around on all-4 like a normal dog. But outside on the concrete he would pull it back up after a few steps. He said "good glad to hear it. It is healing nicely and is at the point he can put some weight on. No more pills to keep him quiet. But No Kennel, he is not strong enough to go playing with Tony." He also said, The walking on all-4 will help tone the muscles when the cast comes off. So I guess I'm starting to see some light at the end of tunnel..........Bob

Thats great to hear Bob glad to see gunne to doing good

that's great to here. I woke up in a cold sweat last night over a dream Fillmore ran into the street. not sure where that one came from. But, I can only imagine your stress. Really good to hear the little guy is healing up well.

Glad to hear Bob glad Gunne is coming along!!

Please everybody stand up and cheer, have a celebration brew with me. Gunne got his cast Taken Off today 9/8/10. The Vet said his leg healed fine, it will be weak for a while and keep him quiet as possible for about a week. The leg needs to gain some strength that it was relying on the cast for. So I think he may be hunting some Pheasant yet this fall. Thank you to all of you for the support I desperately needed. I truly appreciate it........Bob

That's great news Bob. Glad to hear the young one will get some bird time this year.

Birdman, Right now I really don't know. The opener here is the 23rd. But I want to take Tony for it. He is more experienced and he has all the commands down good. Gunne because of his leg has been set back. The most drastic of the set back is I lost the time to teach him "Whoa". Which I feel is a must. Gunne will get some bird work when Tony is to tired to go. I will just have to struggle through it and hope for the best. So we shall see how things progress I will tell you what happens. Also remember we don't have many wild birds here. But the state does plant/release some at various times during the season. Those will be the birds Gunne will get some work on......Bob
