Embattled California wildlife official

Oh my. It is a different world today. Have you seen this news?

"The embattled president of California's Fish and Game Commission pushed back at his critics Tuesday, telling them he did nothing wrong by killing a mountain lion on a big game hunt in Idaho. And he vowed not to resign."

Resign for hunting? What do you think about this? I'm glad I'm not in California.

absolutley insane He does something completly legal. They all seem to support things that are illegal and about how that everyone should except it and even though the law says it is wrong its not. But this guy who is in charge of hunting and fishing does something legal and that has moral backing and they want him to resign? talk about bass akwards

cally is one jacked up state........it would be much better if we gave it to Mexico........they don't bail out their sick, lame and lazy.

That is a shame and it does illustrate the disconnect with California folk who follow agendas rather than laws.

But, the California official apparently understood the possible backlash and still went forging ahead.
Considering his official position and what could happen as a result of his actions, one wonders why he did it....as that was not his objective while in Idaho.
At some point, a political fella operating in a political system(this F&G official) must have an eye for the greater issues and his somewhat unique position along with what might be lost if he loses his job....matters little the unfairness of that which is at hand.
If he had a voice into decisions favoring a hunting view, then his loss or damage may reduce that voice...as there may be few such voices in California, is his decison worth a mountain lion mount?
I doubt it.

He chose to accept his position and it's burdens and fetters.
He must live with the often unfair and unjust consequences of that job choice.
Not right, just is.
I hope all goes well for him...I do hope he is wiser in the future.

California is indeed quite the stew of self-focused and government-dependent individuals with little clue of the rest of society.
As a side, my daughter and SIL moved to Santa Cruz...right behind Berkley as the most liberal spot in the U.S.
They did find a place nearby to have their handgun transferred...the whacked-out guy who knocks demanding to borrow a blanket made that transfer all the more urgent.
I'll rest easier when they leave the Golden State.

Hunters and gun owners best come to this guys side. Right now I understand 70% of people working for fish & game are not hunters or fisherman. I would say this is living proof. Does that comfort you that those who have zero interest in the sport are enforcing the laws and pumping the legislation for more restrictions? I have near zero faith in the system in charge right now.

I find this disturbing on quite a few levels. I searched around the web for a while, reading the different articles condemning him for his legal hunt. The outrage seems to stem from him being the president of the fish and game commission. Most people seem to think that his job is to "protect" wildlife and can not see past the act of killing an animal. They do not understand the need of controlling the size of a population. Hell, that is a big part wildlife management.

I believe that the people of California have some seriously screwed up priorities. I hope that this madness is not contagious, and am trying to come up with some way of showing support for Richards. PETA and the SIERRA Club both have on-line petitions calling for his removal.

Some of the posts are hilarious!!

''SIGNED''....Daniel Richards should resign, NOW. His job is to PROTECT animals NOT kill them and especially, animals that are close to extinction!!!!!!!!"

"This JERK must not ever be connected with any animal. He MUST NOT keep this job. Daniel Richards MUST be fully accountable for this heinous action & must be jailed & made to pay a huge sum of money to be allocated for wildlife preservation. He must do community service, also. Get bums like this out of our world."

"This THING?man is highly unsuitable for this job if he takes pleasure in killing any wild animal & especially relatively rare 1s, It is arseholes like him who have helped to make wildlife extinct, I would like to see him & his sort extinguished!!"

"There's nothing wrong with California, it's the people in our government. It's time to run these
arrogant Republicans out on a rail."

"It makes me ashamed to live in California."

"If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men. ---St. Francis of Assisi..."

"Mr. Richards is a hunter, member of the National Rifle Association and Republican. He was appointed by former Governor Schwarzenegger.Says it all!"

Damn uneducated, bleeding heart liberals.

In California Cougars hunt people, mostly joggers and babies, rather than be hunted to preserve the fear of man. This probably seems like a fair trade to the Bambi-ites, we can only hope the next victim is one of their own.

The lion season just ended in SD and for the first time the female quota was not reached before the overall of 70. They increase the kill very year over the rants of the Sierra Club PETA and other groups. Previously the GF&P denied the elk reductions had anything to do with cats, but with calf recruitment headed down hill, you know its predation.

This is ridiculous. I've already sent emails to my representatives telling them to end this idiocy. If we just opened our cougar season back up he wouldn't have had to go all the way to Idaho to shoot one.:D

For those of you who dislike California just remember how much ag production comes from our beautiful state but hey maybe you would rather buy it from Mexico than have it produced in America. Once you get away from LA, the bay area and Sacramento I think you'll find good hard working honest people who despise our liberal leanings as much as most of you.

Hey quail hound, you don't have to defend California for me. I lived there for years as a young man. Great hunting opportunities.

The San Joaquin valley in California produces grapes, raisins, almond, vegetable, pistachios, citrus etc.. I wouldn't want to get those products from Mexico or South America. My wife and I made three great trips to the beautiful Napa Valley, beautiful country.

We have idiots and weirdo's in every state all over the country. You guys in California just happen to have nearly 38 million people.

One thing most people forget and that is that California was successful in getting wild pheasants started as early as 1889 (that was years before S. Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa or Kansas established a wild pheasant population) motivated by the pheasant success in Oregon which is where they obtain their original pheasant stock. They also obtain another pheasant shipment directly from Hong Kong.

Yep, I'm in the heart of the San Joaquin valley surrounded by everything you just mentioned and then some. It seems pomagranites and olives are hot right now as I've seen quite a few orchards going in lately. Not to mention Ca is the biggest dairy producer in America and second only to Texas in cattle production.

Here is an almond orchard in full bloom I'm sitting next to taking lunch right now.

If California were a nation it would have the 8th largest Gross National Product in the world.:)
Huge state CA with LOTS of wilderness. Lots of good hard working folks too.
