Chicks?

I live and farm in eastern Kansas and there are definitley a lot more quail than the last few years. The other farmers in the area I talk to agree. We haven't had the flooding rains we have the past several years. I can go out and drive around just before dark and see several coveys every evening. They are really nice size broods also. We still aren't back to levels of 10 years ago, but will for sure be better than the last 3 or 4. Now the corn crop is another story, its going to be the poorest I've ever raised. The corn likes the big rains but the quail don't.

I will be holding classes in negative advertising for Ks birds. :)

Pretty sure that last birds in KS were shot some time in January of 2011.

Hahah! I don't think there's a bird left in the entire state either!

Don't worry guys, the folks checking the site right now already know where/how to find the birds and will do so no matter how few there are. I'll do what's right and exercise the "edit" option to remove the sensitive information:thumbsup:

Its pretty hard to shoot the birds where I live. There is hardly any WIHA and its very hard to get permission to hunt private ground for quail. I drove around last night and in an hour saw 7 coveys. We haven't had birds like that in a long time. I was planning on waiting a couple more years to buy another pair of pups to start, but may change my mind an order a pair now.

I've been walking mile after mile through the best pheasant and quail cover in the State. I thought I heard 1 flush once, it was a locust!

Don't have to worry, a gaunt looking Kestrel swooped down and grabbed it in mid air. Might have been the last one! Yep, South Dakota is the only answer!

Last month some business in Columbia, Mo. was serving locust flavored ice cream, (really), till the health department shut them down! I'm going to do an informal driving survey routes in August, NE Kansas, 22miles like they do. I'm going to do one early AM, one late afternoon hour before dark. It will be interesting to see the results, as compared to the KDWP crow count survey, and upcoming roadside survey. I will advise.

I like the way you guys think... Maybe we should replace the word "Quail" with the word "pigeon", and "pheasant" with the word "crow". Imagine how many internet scouters would keep reading your post bragging about how you moved a couple dozen pigeons and bagged a few crows.

I personally haven't seen or heard much pigeon activity around here, but I feel like the Western half of the KS/NE border is the place to be for good crow action this Fall. Just got home from a trip to Kearney and the crow cover is outstanding up there.

Well.... have you seen my neck? Honestly, from the collar to the hair line it looks like I grew up in Puerto Rico. Below the collar it looks like I live in a cave.... So, they might have a point...

Plus, I hunt, fish, drive a truck, live in the country... Really I don't think I could argue with anybody that called me a redneck. I'm not sure eating crows would make any difference.

I saw some really young pigeons after the t-storm here sunday on gravel road. Would guess that there was a dozen of them.

No pigeons or crows seen locally by me, but we've been spending the weekends "hydrating" at the lake. If the heat wave ever settles down any I will spend a bit more time out and about...

Yeeeehaaaa, I never thought I would look forward to eat'n crow! And some folk say them pigon taste mighty fine too!
