I fella can go kinda stir crazy this time of year with no bird huntin'. Anyone shot anything lately? Coyote? Rabbit? Husband? Wife?

thought about shooting the red cedars on the farm but I think it may cost too much so I will just use the Stihl on them. I will be takin the .243 for Yotes and will patttern the 12ga for Thunder chickens. I think a guy otta be crappie fishin now. It's 60 some degrees right now.

Coyotes and feral cats.

I'm in an "eradication zone" for whitetail deer in Wisconsin, as part of the CWD program.

Means I can shoot four deer a day until March 31st. uh huh.

Have gone out at dawn two or three times, more to be out than to shoot a deer.

No snow, high winds, and greasy ground don't make it very interesting. I'm not trying real hard, but it is something to do.

Just paper at the Thursday night indoor leagues!!

Well, nothing with a shotgun, just some pictures during a Sunday/Monday backpacking trip on the Kansas River. I've canoe camped on the Kansas many times, but this was my first-ever trip where I backpacked to and from one of its sandbars. Beautiful night on the river it was, Sunday night.

That looks like a lot of fun! How do you cross the deeper water? Go around on the bank? Did you do any fishing?

Turkey season opens six weeks from today.Been seeing several Toms strutting already.Looks like there are a few more down here in SEK,then last year.
That willbe what I shoot next.

Preserve hunt last Sunday...shot 8 pheasants.
Off to turkey hunt in April here in SW Colorado and then after the gobblers again in Nebraska in May.

We walked the floodplain parallel to the main river channel for about a mile before cutting across a dry side channel onto a timbered highwater island, then after exploring that island we walked down onto the big sandbar that lays at its head. Next morning we bushwhacked an exit route through the riparian forest back to my truck.

I'm guessing it was no more than a 5 mile trip, but satisfying nonetheless. I always learn something new from the buddy I packed with; this guy solo thru-hiked the entire 2,000+ mile Appalachian Trail a couple of years ago. At age 67? When he talks, I listen.

No, we didn't do any fishing. But I'd think if a guy threw a bait of cut shad into some of the holes this time of year the result would be pretty good.

Heading out to shoot some tame pheasants, chukars, and quail this weekend. Its nice to have vendors at work that like to shoot birds and are willing to pay for a day of fun. Its not the real thing obviously, but it beats sitting on the couch eating cheetos.

Wife and I went to a charity's casino event the other day and shot craps.:D Too bad it was just play money cause we made a killing at the table!

If this weather holds I will definitely be shooting some rounds of golf too.:D

Oh yeah... Shotguns... I have a date at the preserve coming up too. The birds are probably safe. Trap league ended in October and I my shotgun was more of a fashion accessory during hunting season than a necessary tool. I should check the barrel for cobwebs before I load up.:nutz:

Somebody please post a picture of some snow geese or preserve birds or something.

Beautiful pictures. Where did you put in and get out and what county were you in where you camped? Just curious because I have fantasized about canoeing and camping on the Kaw. Looks like big fun.

Definately going to have to do that this year. Guy could set some lines and pole fish and cook up some good grub on the fire, sit back and take it all in. Sounds so relaxing.

You're both correct on all accounts. PM me and let's go look at the place. The entire hiking route into and back out is across public access land. And the sandbar campsite sits down inside the main river channel at an elevation below the uppermost riverbank edge (the average high water mark), which makes it public access land as well.

I guess you could call places like this WIBA property (Walk-In Backpacking Area).
