That was probably 2012. Why, you weren’t one of the hunters I talked to were you?

Nope, been coming this way for thirty years. Only time we went to Iowa was when the birds froze out here. Just curious as to what you considered to be thehayday.

Okay here are more boots on the ground reports. Drove about 70 miles to another area. Saw one smashed rooster on the road. I have 4 very experienced dogs, 2 are older and get only light duty. Two are in their prime. Put up maybe 15 today, got 3 roosters. Yesterday put up 12 got 3. Day before put up maybe 10 no shots. Dogs are all beat up from dry conditions. Saw way more hunters than birds . Not great, often I have to move to another spot because there are hunters where I want to go. Suspect the rather marginal hunting will thin the crowds. The pointer people I’ve talked to are doing about the same, a bird or two . The dryness and warm temps are tough .

I used my 12b J. Harkom today.

Youth Pheasant Opener with my nephew. He was so disappointed with not being able to hunt in the 60+ mph winds yesterday. He had a tremendous shot after I flushed the first rooster on my side of a tree row over the top of the trees on his side. He only had one miss today.

Morning hunt today proved productive. I shot two and Willow found a wounded rooster. I heard shots this morning to the north of my pickup. I decided to walk that side of the road anyway and Willow cleaned up for the other hunter(s).
