1st Annual "Where Should I Hunt" Thread

That would be great Steve. It's been a couple of years since I last seen that pheasant. Would hate to send anyone on a wild goose chase.

Next time your through Topeka let me know. Would love to meet up with you for lunch and talk dogs and hunting.

Well, no pheasants were seen or hit between Alma and Paxico. But the cover looks so much better this year than this time last year. So maybe we will have a good hatch next year.

I don't get over to Topeka much any more. Just passing through on the what to KCI. But it would be great to meet some time.

BC,

This is V-john's work.

This could save a lot of sore feelings in the coming years. We need someone to remember this next August. It should then be made a "sticky" at the top of the forum page.

Oops!!

I've said it before V-John should be an administrator of admissions, he can judge the "poor" me sob stories, to spare the rest of us. Like the guys who have a "new" dog, with no background training, who need a real good spot, so he and his posse, can make the dog gunshy on the season opener. The guy who has an eldery father, or a son, who is as well trained as the "new" dog, bonus if you have all three! And of course. the guys who drive 1300 miles, one way, without any thought process, to figure out where they will hunt. These are my favorites. I used to have a dialogue, now if it's not a contributing member of the forum. Zero.

This cracked me up. That much, I'd be more then happy to do. Maybe we should just go ahead and have a committee on this. More thought should be put into this. It would be a really large endeavor though, that probably need several members on the "committee".
Guys, I really appreciate the response. I thought that I could try and condense the many different threads into one of them to help the new guy out. That way, they wouldn't even have to use the "search" function, but rather just go right here! See? Don't say that we aren't a helpful bunch here on Ultimate Pheasant Hunting.
:D

where to go

most of these guy's just gotta be liberal democrats waiting for a hand out. i think however that the pheasants must love em' cause they ain't gonna get shot by them. cheers to them as they won't hurt the bird populations much.

cheers

New guy at work is a big bird hunter, found out he typically hunts a lot of private ground within 10 miles of where we have been going the last 10 years. He drove through there a few weeks ago and the report from the locals wasn't good. I guess that means that is where I will be. :)

Funny Thread. :)

We are already culling out about 80% of those applying for membership on the UPH Forums.
If We cull out those joining just for finding Honey Holes, I'm afraid there wouldn't be many new members.
Besides, every once in a while we get a new member that becomes a valuable contributor. So be nice to the newbies, just in case.

Giving out Your Honey Holes is NOT required.

That's a good idea. Kinda like pheasant stamps.

Really

I rarely post to this forum but I check this page daily starting in early spring to get a glimpse of what conditions are like, crop progress and what farmers are seeing while they harvest. Sometimes it is hard to read the arrogant tone in these posts. There is a sense of ownership to these birds. I follow the K-State wheat page, agweb and HPJ to monitor crop progress and current conditions. Kansas pheasant hunting and crop cover is something I monitor year round. I continue to check this site for that one post that might include a "bird cast"......not for an exact gps location, but to get the juices flowing in anticipation of that November hunt. Yes I am an "out of stater" but have been hunting western Ks this marking my 20th season. I make this trip every year to see family, friends and as a bonus I get to hunt some birds. Sometimes we as out of staters just need to hear what is going on without all the banter that goes with it. A lot of the posts to this forum put down the out of state guys that just want a little general insight to some populations.....good or bad!

Some of you fellas must spend the rest of your time over on the Kansas Bowsite.....

While I can appreciate your message, as you can imagine I disagree with it. Many of us use this forum as a way to unwind from the grind of life, and share our love of bird hunting. Some of us have hunted together, some of us have become friends, many times we piss each other off.:D That being said we would share what info we have with each other, or any other person that chose to participate in some of the other conversations that happen here. Not simply crop or bird conditions. I find the arrogance in those that don't contribute in any way, but then come on here and expect information a few weeks before the season starts. I have extended myself to many on here and will continue to do so.

Yep, yep, and yep Tom! I've always been pretty nice to those asking for help, to a fault when I look back on it. However, it has really gotten under my skin too lately. Maybe it's b/c I'm getting older, maybe it's b/c hemorrhoids have made me more angry:mad::confused:

Either way, we don't want to run all the new guys off. V-John's thread is obviously somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but the new guys could sure benefit from a disclaimer letting them know how we feel about handouts when they register.

We LOVE out-of-staters. No kidding. :) Keep coming to Kansas to hunt. But as other posts have indicated, it's a bad year. As far as this thread goes, I think what happened was there was a post or two from previously unheard of folks whose tone implied it would be a great privilege to have them hunt on your land because of their excellent personal and hunting character traits, etc., etc.

You are a great asset to this forum and what you say above is spot on.

Haven't been there. Is it pretty bad? :D

I am a new member of this forum and i just noticed it about week ago. I will admit in excitement for the new season i was all over the internet just looking for anything bird related. When i found this forum it looked like a good group of people to share stories with. After reading this forum I do see how it looks when new people come on right before season. Im not looking for any give me's, or private land. I've said this a million times if you cant knock on a door and talk to a stranger or make friends at the local tavern then you probably dont deserve to be on that land anyway. I have spent a lot of time out in western kansas this summer compared to normal and the private land is in just as bad a shape as private. This year will be tough but every bird you and your dog get will be appreciated that much more.

Sounds like a great thread or sub-forum topic would be "Culled UPFers" or something like that - threads being just a line or two about rejectees and the reason, e.g.: Reject from Kansas due to avatar featuring PETA logo or exposed buttocks. :p

I just read a thread on another forum in which a guy asked for some info or "HELP" in a area where his tag was good for. The guy came back with an animal and named his Post " Thank You Forum Members" and had a nice story of his hunt and thanked the guy's who helped him. I just have not seen that much, on here. I do not read every post and thread so it may happen more than I think. I thought it was a class act on the guy's part . PAY IT FORWARD people!!! If someone on here helps you out, say thank you when you get back and then you help someone out! Too many times you see the one and only post from a person looking for intel. Never hear from them again!! If you are on this forum regular, you will know where to hunt!
